Dating in the Dark Australia, Tuesday, May 15

Frances Atkinson
May 15, 2012

Tonight, one hopeful, former Big Brother contestant Jess, adds some much-needed colour to an otherwise forgettable episode.

Fox8, 9.30pm

Video: http://www.fox8.tv/shows/dating-in-the-dark-australia/daters/week-6

There's a good reason why the first thing the women do when they arrive at the mansion is crack open a bottle of booze. The first date is a group event and host Laura Dundovic reminds us that ''first impressions are everything''. Quite simply, there's just something a little grubby about watching strangers' awkward fumbles as they attempt to make a real connection. The contestants seem nice enough, they all just want to fall in love, but forcing them into the dark room seems counterproductive because none of them look, feel or sound especially comfortable with the titillating format. Tonight, one hopeful, former Big Brother contestant Jess, adds some much-needed colour to an otherwise forgettable episode.

I missed it :(

Did anyone see Mike Goldman in the background?
He's working on the show.

______________

The making of ratings blockbuster The Voice

Jason Mountney goes on the set of Channel Nine’s talent search series, The Voice, to see how the format, based on an international franchise, has come together. What ingredients have gone into making this certified hit that’s rated more than two million viewers on three consecutive nights?

Mike Goldman has one of the toughest jobs on the set of the Nine network’s new talent show, The Voice. He not only has to narrate the show, but also keep the audience from losing their enthusiasm as they realise shooting TV programs takes a lot longer than the one-hour bursts they see in their lounge rooms. A lot longer.

An ecstatic audience in the background is just one piece of the puzzle Nine and production company Shine are using to elevate the talent show to the much-vaunted “water-cooler TV” status that brings big advertising bucks and gets viewers to stick around. And with a massive advertising campaign featuring buses, billboards and plenty of station promos, it is obvious Nine, alongside the five major sponsors – Ford Australia, Vodafone, Insurance Australia Group, AustralianSuper and Swisse Vitamins, who are all helping to bankroll the multimillion dollar production – are serious about this ‘shiny floor’ format.

Much of the crowd is made up of friends and family supporting the acts and it is up to Goldman to ensure everything recorded in the studio has a backdrop of dancing, standing ovations, smiles, outstretched hands and plenty of clapping. Even as filming enters its third bum-numbing hour. And its fourth. With fluffed lines, sub-par delivery and having the judges sing the same song three times, Goldman has his work cut out.

SHE was Big Brother's ultimate pin-up, a former rear of the year titleholder, and the favourite bikini model among the lads' magazines, but these days Krystal Forscutt has traded in life in the fast lane.

Six years after launching herself via Big Brother as TV's latest glamour girl, Forscutt is engaged and managing her fiance's gym, Newlife Health Club, while also working as a personal trainer in the Sydney suburb of Caringbah.

Forscutt said her reality TV days seemed a lifetime ago.

"It makes me feel very old," she said.

"It kind of feels like it never happened. I have some good memories and some bad."

While grateful for the opportunities Big Brother presented her, she said she quickly tired of being the girl in the bikini, pouting and posing.

"I got to a point where I was completely over it," she said. "It was not mentally stimulating by any means and I was not content in my life.

"I took so many opportunities purely because they were there. They fell at my feet and I took them. I never really thought some of them through properly.

"It took me a long time to realise it was OK if I wanted to stop.

"I am definitely more at ease with who I am now.

"Fitness is something I am passionate about. and I could not be happier where I am at with my life right now."

Forscutt became engaged at the weekend when her boyfriend, Neil Hipwell, proposed while they were in New Zealand

Where did our favourite contestants go after Big Brother finished?

What has happened to the housemates Australia fell in love with? The Sunday Mail looks at where some of the reality show contestants are now.

SARA-MARIE FEDELE
Arguably the most famous of the Big Brother housemates, Fedele came third in the original series in 2001. She was known for her signature "bum dance" and bunny ears and after the show sang a cover of The Pointer Sisters hit I'm So Excited, wrote children's books and created a successful line of pyjamas. She also starred in Celebrity Big Brother, had a hosting stint on Totally Wild, and competed on Seven's Dancing With The Stars. Most recently she has been working in retail, childcare and as a plus-size model.

Only one video can be posted per post, video in next post.

Pete Timbs

PETER TIMBS
As part of the original Big Brother series, Timbs has gone on to have considerable success. He took a job after the show working for magazine TV Week, which then led to media commentary roles on Ten's The Circle, Seven's Today Tonight, A Current Affair on Nine and the now defunct Mornings with Kerri-Anne. He worked in radio on the Gold Coast briefly, and is now a member of Brisbane's Triple M Breakfast radio show.

Jess Hardy

JESS HARDY
The bubbly blonde won over more than just the nation on the second series of the show, she also scored a husband. Hardy had an onscreen romance with fellow housemate Marty, and the pair tied the knot in 2004 in their own reality show.

Sadly the couple divorced 15 months later. She then went on to have a reasonably successful career in radio working at various stations such as ZZZFM in Lismore, radio stations in Dubbo and Coffs Harbour, and Radio 97 on the Gold Coast. Most recently she appeared as a contestant on Fox8's Dating In The Dark, trying to find love in a pitch black room.

Wes Denning

WES DENING
The Queenslander finished eighth in the 2004 series of Big Brother. After leaving the show he had stints on local radio before snaring a role on kids' series Totally Wild.

For this he was nominated for the Graham Kennedy award for Best New Talent at the 2006 Logie Awards. He then helped host various programs on Channel 10 such as Toasted TV and Scope, before presenting two docos for the network. In 2009, he packed his bags and headed for America where he scored a small television presenting role. Dening is now based in LA where he runs WD Entertainment Group, responsible for the Fox8 series The Stafford Brothers and Celebrity Babysitter. He also recently scored a hosting gig on the US Disney Channel.

Jemma Gawned

JEMMA GAWNED
Known for her excessive use of lip gloss in the Big Brother house, it was no surprise that the series one contestant went on to start up her own cosmetics range after the show. However, the business went into administration in 2009. The failure didn't deter Gawned, though, and she set up Naked Treaties a range of raw, vegan, organic, gluten and dairy-free food products. The goods, which include chocolates and cakes, are now stocked in healthfood stores, cafes and gyms across Australia, and she is reportedly on the verge of breaking into the US market, Hong Kong and Singapore. She also owns a health food cafe in Byron Bay.

Is Geneva still bi I wonder? Or has she passed that 'phase' lol. I remember her pouty "I'M the bisexual of the house" comment when that intruder came in also claiming to be bi and then Geneva wouldn't pash her.

I think Geneva would be in my top 5 hated people of all time for Big Brother. Haaaaaate

I cannot imagine Krystal training anyone either.
While grateful for the opportunities Big Brother presented her, she said she quickly tired of being the girl in the bikini, pouting and posing.

^It's not like you had any other skills love.

Hey I tried to do some sleuthing myself but couldn't find anything on whether Susannah and Thomas are still together?

Thanks for that article Willowthewisp, quite recent too.

I am trying to remember a previous housemates name and it is driving me bonkers!

If any of you can crack it, I will give you a prize.

I remember she was considered an "older" housemate at the time, I think she was in her early 30's, and she behaved really really really badly when she was nominated, she took it super personally, to the point of tanty's. I can't remember which series she was from, but I maybe do have some vague recollection that she was an air stewardess for a domestic airline and I feel 58% sure she had a husky voice (like Kim Carnes/Bette Davies Eyes).

So basically here is the information you are working with:-

1. No idea what series
2. Bad Sport
3. May have been a stewardess - but given I only just worked out tonight that Ray Ray is in fact Ryan, what do I know?
4. Has a husky voice - could very well be a man

I am going to go to my grave with this question unanswered, I just know it.
