Michael is trying to get Ben on board with his change of tactics but it isn't working because Ben is all about Ben and trying to keep peace with Ben is just making Michael look bad.
If Michael had simply switched tactics and kept quiet about it he might have saved himself but Ben is going down and he is dragging Michael down with him.
