What happened to having intelligent hm''s

Since promoting the smart bb hm''s we only got Michael with genius iq but unemployed and a spoilt bum

Keep looking for this gold hm''s from the early yrs

No, not even Michael. He was charismatic and a performer/funny man but i never saw any proof of him as any bit more intelligent than let's say Josh, Ben, Angie, Sam etc... I would say that from what we saw there were no intellectuals in the house this year as the edit ch9 gave us showed no intellectual discussions. I'm still waiting for the day they put 2 of each housemates of a different age range and ethnicity in the house.

I think perhaps it's just a matter of there not being a huge pool of intelligent people applying for BB.

Also I truly think an intelligent person would be driven mad having to live in that house for such an extended period of time.

I really think it's that they weren't airing the conversations, not that they weren't happening. I can't imagine Bradley especially not trying to have intelligent conversations in there. Estelle said last night that they spent 3 hours in the middle of the pool talking politics, then there's that video posted in the Politics of Bradley and Estelle thread which makes it obvious they've had those chats, Brad's nomination of Stacey for avoiding conversations of substance, plus the few bits we saw in the first Confidential. I think the producers either thought we weren't interested, or were scared of the PG rating.

Maybe not any more, they did back in the day. BB3 was a reasonably intelligent house, there would be three lawyers from that series now (Jo already was one, Ben and Jamie were both studying, Ben is now quite a successful one), Claire was doing her PhD and other housemates like Chrissie, Daniel and Patrick were all pretty intelligent too.

After BB3 it turned to shite. Actually, come to think of it, BB4 was okay I suppose.

Who was that housemate in the series with Bridget? (Brigette?) - he had this horrid high pitched voice. And Im pretty sure he won title of 'stupidest housemate'

Travis.

I think Pecan is totally correct about Channel Nein not airing the housemates' more in-depth conversations. That's why I went through most of the series not having a favourite housemate and not feeling like i had much 'investment' in it. It's hard to care about a reality show character when you aren't allowed the experience of gradually getting to know them.

When Ben said of Layla "She made oats. She made oats!", I thought yeah, that and Sam is pretty much all we know about her. At the end of the series I still don't really know what these people thought about anything. I don't really know who they are or how they felt about any issues of significance, and I feel that viewers were ripped off by Nine's sanitising edits. The 'dumbing down' was frustrating, insulting and didn't do the housemates. any favours either.

Agreed, it takes a certain someone to apply for BB.

The other important thing to remember is most of the intelligent community most likely have careers and a reputation to uphold. Bith of which will take a beating if they are seen on BB.

One update mentioned discussions about asylum seekers but no sign of that either. It's all about dumbing down for the viewers.

I believe the commercial channels totally underestimate the intelligence of their viewers- hence the tripe on Current Affair and Today Night. They're pretty much both Jerry Springer in the field and infomercials. Once upon a time they reported on stories and issues that actually meant something to the community.

I'm sure if we'd had live feeds we would have experienced some interesting conversations.

I agree. Surely with all those people in the house there was at some point, intelligent conversation going on. For whatever reason Channel 9 just didn't want to show us. Not sure why. I think the production team were treating the audience as though we were all tweens.

I think most of the HM's were intelligent, but we weren't shown those conversations.

As most of the viewers would realise that they were really dumb. (no not the HM's being dumb, the viewers)

The part in bold is for the dumb amounst us, I know some are/were on this forum.

When insulting the intelligence of others, it is of paramount importance that you don't make a spelling error.

Otherwise you just look silly.

I have never said I was intelligent. If I said I was, I would be lying.

Next on the hit list is my grammar.
