The Mole 2013

Looked for a thread for this, couldn't find one. Finished filming last week, should be back shortly after Easter.

The new host Shura Taft tweeted some mild location spoilers throughout filming that suggests this'll be a bit like the 'new location every week' feel Excess Baggage had (because we all know how that worked). Without going into too much detail about the actual towns involved, it looks like it'll be based around New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania, and maybe Western Australia. I think it's a good mix - no version of The Mole has ever filmed in WA (our version's done all the eastern states aside from the ACT, and the Dutch version has used Adelaide and Darwin), Victoria and Tasmania are a nice callback to Grant's first season, and NSW's turned up a fair bit but only for season-premiere episodes before they move on elsewhere (and for the live eliminations, but the less said about them the better).

The idea of the Mole lends itself better to an ever changing location than a show that's main focus was on weight-loss...

True. We had a season that spent something like six weeks of a ten-week season in the Gold Coast (basically our Orlando), and one that spent all but one episode in Noumea. Weren't the greatest, to be fair.

First promo.

I think it's a huge misfire - the comedic tone is either going to continue into the show and put off fans of the old version, or it's not and new fans are going to be annoyed by the bait-and-switch.

It's a promo... You are reading too far in to things...

Exactly, it's a promo - it's meant to advertise the freaking show, which has a darker tone. This is somehow simultaneously too light-hearted AND too mean-spirited, and barely relevant to the show to boot. Saying this is a good advertisement for The Mole because it mentions sabotage is like saying it's perfectly appropriate to advertise Lost with clips from Gilligan's Island because they were both about being stranded on a deserted island.
