You can't directly. You'd need to save the image to your computer then upload it as an attachment.

A simple guide for noobs would be appreciated!

I'm using firefox on a computer, and this is what I do:)
you click on the instagram photo to view the photo and read the comments.
right click on the photo , then click on the 'view background image' option, and the photo opens up with the image url in address bar, so copy it.
click the little image icon in text editor above the reply box, and paste the image url to insert it

I'm in Firefox and for some reason the 'view background image' option isn't clickable when I do this. Anyone know why? Or what I can do about it?

I used to use that method but Instagram changed about 6 months ago and I have the same issue as you

I think it's related to the photos I am trying to copy being private. I can get an embedding code when I click on the 3 dots down the bottom of the post from some photos but not from the accounts that are set to private.

Instructions on how to post a private photo via @Consuela from the Bachelor thread.

"You should be able to do it through the page inspector. Not as straightforward though.

On Firefox:

1. Right click somewhere on the page -> Inspect Element.
Technical crap will now take up the bottom half of the page.
2. Click on Network up the top of this new window.
3. Click on Images down the bottom of this new window.
4. Reload/Refresh the page.
5. Right click on the image (the number_number_number_n.jpg one) and Copy URL.
I assume you know how to insert an image here."
