Eviction Show Format & Ideas

Always Watching đź‘€
So tonight I enjoyed the show, the vibe of the crowd was loud and electric and it was probably the best I have seen Channel Nine (Alex and Co. do). The daily show part can be improved but things are better...
Here's a breakdown of the good and bad and what I would change:

Good:
-Vibes of the show from the live audience were great
-Less ads tonight
-Prizes for the evicted housemate - didn't see that coming!
-THE COUCH! Yay! - Shots are heaps better and the chats aren't as awkward because they aren't secluded from each other.
-The stage lighting looked great tonight.
-Sonia's Eviction Interview was much better - still could be improved, was a little rushed
-No pre-recorded time-warp between the house and stage during the ad break.
-The graphics/titles for the episode remained blue throughout the whole thing! Keep this color coding for each episode!

What I would improve:
-Voting Lines
At the start of the show we were given the numbers to vote and showed the graphs and mentioned that lines would close soon. About 3 minutes later the lines closed - way to quick need to have them open for 15 mins past the shows start in my opinion.

-The "Pairs" Eviction
The whole housemates choosing which housemate of the pair to evict tonight was really rough. I really didn't like Gemma in the house, however the way in which tonight was undertaken was NOT Big Brother at all. As was mentioned by another member, the psychological impact that this puts on a housemate would in my opinion (and I am not a expert at all) be quite bad and would have NEVER been allowed in the past. I understand that this was probably a once off, but the whole vibe of it was very negative and uncomfortable viewing. I really felt sorry for her.

-Gemma's Exit from the house
When Gemma was told to exit the house she left via the same set of stairs that all housemates entered in, meaning that they probably went through those same "doors" at the entrance to the house. (see below)
Entry.png

Because they went to an ad break tonight after Gemma left the house, they obviously let her travel from the house to the stage during the ad break like the old days.
What I would do is show the housemate exiting from the yard and then have another camera outside the entrance (as shown above) with the housemate walking through those doors, hop on the mode of transport they use/or they walk past the camera even, then cut back to Sonia to throw to break. I think it would really improve the whole eviction vibe and flow I think. It really wouldn't be hard to do and wouldn't ruin the way in which the housemate enters the auditorium at all. You have spent the money on building it, why not use it?? Seems such a waste.

-The Couch
We have a couch! Yay! I am so glad that Alex/new live show Director took this on-board and actually use a couch now. I know its unlikely that this will happen, but the last thing I would do to top this off and make the shots 100% would be to put the couch on a riser. Put it on a perspex one or something, because I noticed a face on wide shot of the couch and the big projection behind looked like it was about to eat both Gemma and Sonia. Raising it would kinda bring Sonia and the Housemates/guest heads up a bit and not be some over sized monster about to eat them behind.

-Evictees Interview
The interview tonight went well, but I always feel that the last couple of years they really rush this and then the housemate is gone and you don't see them again until the finale. Back in the Ten days the housemates would be on Nominations/Uplate and you got to understand them or hear their thoughts more. Now its just thanks, here's a voucher see you in 2 months time. I think the interview needs to either be longer or the housemate needs to be on Monday night LIVE.

Aside from the Daily Show part needing to show more natural conversations and actual stuff that happened throughout the day in the house! (that's for another thread, but please do it) tonight was a much better eviction show in numerous aspects - the best I have seen on Channel 9.
I actually have back flipped and will stick the show out longer now. :)

Any other thoughts/comments/positive suggestions? :)

100% agree, they built that bit on the outside of the entry/exit stairs and don't use it.

I have to agree, the live components/actual eviction had a great vibe tonight.
  • Colour coding shows... awesome! Only change I'd suggest is evictions to be red, Monday Night Live to be blue.
  • Eviction couch... great! It works so much better than bar stools or awkward medieval high-backed chairs.
  • Housemate interviews that aren't rushed in the final segment of the broadcast (final ad break to end credits)... yes, good stuff!
  • Prizes of some kind... also great.
  • And yeah..... what @matts bb said (I'm just repeating your post contents!). Thumbs up Alex, mystery live show director and Endemol Australia.

I thought it was perfect missing a few things but its the best eviction ive seen on channel 9 I felt so bad that gemma had only 1 person behind her but I like it that way as the housemates know them better then we do, I would like to see more of the evicted housemate like you said on monday night I felt as tho it was rushed.

was really a great episode tonight! agree with everything above!

and the "this. is. bigbrother." SFX is actually growing on me :|

The crowd are awful - can't Dreamworld slip some sedatives in their drinks or something to calm them down. At the very least fade them out COMPLETELY at points where the action is house focused. If they're going to be so loud at least do something useful and let the HMs know Jake lives with Tim and is lying to them all.

And as much as I can't stand Mike Goldman if they're going to use him use him for something which would add to the show - sending him down to the "front of the house" to greet the evictee would make a lot of sense. That's what a lot of the European versions have traditionally done - had a studio host and a second (usually male) host directly outside the house.

Indeed they could do the friends and family bit their too and have the evictee reunite with them briefly before they go to the auditorium.

P.S. I assume the show isn't broadcast live so that's why the voting window is brief - it's on a significant delay so they have to close the lines early as although it's nearly an hour later on screen they're actually announcing the results to the house soon after the vote closes. That's the only logical reason I can see for it - they wouldn't cut voting short without good reason.

Oh, huh, OK. This thread exists. I did all my points in the design/stage/titles/etc. thread.

Mad Auntie Sonia's entrances are getting awkwarder by the day:

I actually loved the live show, though... the latest Monday Night Live and "tonight's" eviction have made everything "click" for me and I've started properly enjoying the series.

More of this, please:

  • Giant Eviction Ghosts!™
  • Sofas
  • Having an ad break before the evictee enters the studio instead of suggesting they somehow walked up the stairs and turned up in a ground-level studio five minutes away from the House (I'm looking at you, past Big Brothers)
  • The social media thing, although I did miss the infographics with the stick people from last year
Less of this, please:

  • "You've been a great Housemate! Here are your KFC® So Good™ highlights!" "No thanks, I feel unclean "
  • Sonia reading "(TO THE AUDIENCE)" off the autocue
  • Sonia standing like she's holding an invisible sandwich in her free hand
  • The second shot of Mikey G trying to get the crowd to cheer in as many weeks
Also they're not really using the fancypants crane, are they? I know there's only about ten people in the crowd these days, but give us a sweeping shot of them, for god's sake. Also please bring back the "iconic" steadicam shot up the walkway, it looked so good and the camera is way too static now.

I love the idea of color-coding the shows in a week. Evictions are red, nominations are green, daily shows are blue, but do we really need a Monday Night Live if we're not going to be having games?

Oh, that's right. Going to evictions....
  • $5,000 gift card (er, voucher) to that appliance store was nice, but what if HMs don't want appliances or electronics? Cash or trips might be better. Or even a car, considering that there aren't any taxes on these winnings.
  • How about Mike Goldman or Ben Norris (or someone like them) escorting evicted HMs from the entrance to the golf cart?
  • Sonia should continue the tradition of asking the 10 questions.
  • Better camera shots and better editing
  • And if we must have the HMs making the final decision, please use the American system next time.

Lol I have wanted some sort of prize for each housemate since it came back on Nine -- however I could not care less whether they want appliances or electronics or not. They don't HAVE to get anything.

For me, the combination of having some sort of prize, whatever it is, the couch and the family reunion on stage adds to the 'event' feel of the show.

Perhaps that is just because I am nostalgic for what the eviction shows used to be.

I am thankful that appliances now or appliances online or whatever jumped on board as a sponsor and I reckon we probably have the new live show producer to thank.

The eviction show was deffffffffs an improvement! It just saddens me that it isn't consistent with what we've been given previous. Hopefully though it signified a giant step in the right direction for the rest of the show.

I certainly was an improvement. Hopefully all aspects are better (house and live wise) now that the pairs are over - no need to try to create pair storylines etc.

One thing I feel they should bring back is the chat to the House early in the night. It should be one of the first things they do, have a chat and see how they are feeling. Also miss the old 1-on-1 chats where gretel would talk to each nominee in the diary room.

One thing I am so happy about is they have gotten rid of the Housemates pleading for Australia's votes. That was tacky and horrible!

Could someone please upload the blue eviction titles! Trying to Make a mock PLEASE it would be greatly appreciated!
Best quality I could forge (you have to click the gear and change it to 720p if it's not already):
Sorry if quality is not good enough. :(

Back in the Ten days the housemates would be on Nominations/Uplate and you got to understand them or hear their thoughts more.

UpLate used to be pretty much be my favourite BB show (even better than adults only), it was just such a chill show and you'd get random ex-housemates hanging out just shooting the shit with mike with actual live cams in the background.
