Did Tim Dormer ruin Big Brother?

Tim was the ultimate housemate, love him or hate him, he was the center of last years series and he played the game like no other, and he was himself from Day 1 until the moment he was crowned the winner of Big Brother.

It just feels that because we've seen the best housemate Big Brother has to offer, that nothing can stack up to the expectations Tim set last year. Tim molded the game around him, everyone in the top 10 had some relationship with Tim, whether it be Ed as his arch rival or Ben as his loveable best friend, they all had some relationship with Tim that made it interesting to watch.

This year we haven't seen anyone take on the game like Tim did last year, we do have game players but it just seems like the housemates won't ever stack up to our expectations. We saw Tim go through every emotion, we rode the bumps with him and he made the boldest moves we've seen in the game.

It's up for debate, but I just feel that Tim was bigger than the game itself and as such they needed to try and alter the way the game is to compensate for losing Tim.

IMO: This years HM's have 'characteristics' of former HM's over the years.

A few examples.

Skye = Brigitte 2008 (The dumb act etc.)
Jake = Travis 2008 (Jake sometimes had a high pitched voice & what was the go with the 'glasses')
Lisa = Tahan (Bitchy part, but Tahan showed a nice side)

I very much doubt he ruined it. The problems are:
#1. People will always remember the last winner/last HMs and compare, all the while inwardly hoping to replicate those events. New & different approaches will always be seen as 'not as good' by many when in reality they should take a step back, start a new page & see what unfolds. You can't go back in time, what was entertaining once (even only a year ago) is no longer 'fresh & new' now.

#2. As the seasons roll on, you can see some HMs trying to be 'clones' of previous years' HMs. I've seen a few instances this year; it doesn't work - reason for this see #1.

Ahh see Kaz's post, much the same.

Yes, so that was part of Gemma's plan I imagine. Unfortunately she doesn't have what it takes to pull it off.

Yep

But with Gemma, she made it so obvious in the house & got everyone offside.

With Tim, not everyone was against him.

Also I read that Tim & Gemma both applied for BB last year & Tim upset Gemma & she wanted to hit him.

BB hasn't been the same since it's been on channel 9, maybe because there was a 4 year gap.
Well, this is interesting because I was skimming through some random episodes of BB09 this morning and I noticed something.

Even though BB was a very safe and ultra "family-friendly" program when it returned to our screens in 2012, its live shows, it's scheduling and the format, while not exact, was still the closest to Channel 10's days since Channel 9 took over than 2013 and 2014's seasons ever were/have been. It's a shame.

Tim was one of the best players I've seen in either of the two formats I watch, BBAU &BBUS. I believe it is impossible for a great player to ruin the game; because they cause others to up their own game and enhance strategies in future seasons. What ruins the game are producers who limit information, BBAUs lack of live feed updates this year, or real interference on the part of production BBUS for many years now. BBAU is "dumbing" down , for lack of a better phrase, this year. Sending in ex housemate etc. No game night, no late night feast etc and in return the house and it's occupants are not grabbing our attention. Just my two Texas cents worth.

I dont think Tim ruined Big Brother, he just had the best game plan, in his year. A lot of them make the mistake of trying to copy someones behaviour, from previous series. I think Skye was doing that this year, but instead of Sarah's bunny ears or Estelles wooden horse, she was using that hideous luminous lipstick. Big Brother has IMO actually increased her chances of winning, by confiscating it. I also dont buy her totally dumb act either.

I never liked him and I think people give him too much credit. He wasn't a BB mastermind, he was just a knob who like playing with peoples heads for his own entertainment then he would come up with some elaborate excuse as to why he did it after the event. He was more mean than genius. When he first went in the media labeled him "a serial showoff" and that's exactly what he is. He was chasing fame long before Big Brother and he still is.

Yep, he thought he was controlling the game when this is impossible, BB controls the game and could have thrown so many obstacles his way but he chose to cater to Tim's every whim. When he put himself up for eviction he thought he was so smart. It's sort of like he knew he had it in the bag from day one? ;)
