This was my thought as well. I don't think there is anything sinister in it (and I do love conspiracy theories!).

I think they could be, but then again, I suppose any superpower can be useful if the HM gets it right. But I do think if Brad had given the SP to Layla, she wouldn't have got this one. On the simple basis she would've been saying 'I don't know' about a 100 times and the show would go on for ever as she decided!

so do I. they should say whats the superpower is before the person has gone. not after
