Classic BBAU 2001 stream on official Big Brother YouTube channel (Aug 1-3)

I popped in to watch a few times and I couldn’t help but feel nostalgic… Chatrooms were still all the rage in 2001 so the chat added a nice little bit of old school atmosphere.

Whenever I jumped in there were never less than a couple hundred people watching so I’d consider this little experiment a success. Also BB2025 has some big shoes to fill. I am excited to see what little touches they add to the new series to try and recapture the essence of the original run outside of the eye and the theme. Would love to see an oversized version of the original diary room chair.

Another thing is aside from Mike Goldman an FNL return seems to be the most requested item for this revival. If they aren’t going to bring it back full time I think a one off special as part of a twist would be enough to appease that crowd. Perhaps even brining back Fitzy and Bree as hosts.

This was honestly the best experience. Not exactly practical for living my life but absolute peak nostalgia to be watching along with others.

Ben was a pretty boring winner. Maybe the live stream showed his humour but it should come down to the daily shows. Nice guy but so was Blair. But Blair won his acting career!

So much better without three in the finale, not even sure why that annoyed me.

From my partners commentary, she was very much talking about everyone's looks. The guys were just thin. Not jacked. Obvious exceptions. The lack of tattoos. The women would look worse now with work done with lips and fillers. Even that Jemma wouldn't have that curly hair now. Which then for the finale out of the house her hair was now straightened.

Even that for people our age, fashion hasn't necessarily changed that much.

I then also got a very long explanation of someone called Gino Rio and someone else from BBUK and how much better BBUK used to be.

The thing that gets me is that I’m older now than Gretel was hosting season 1 and yet I feel way younger than her.

Same. It's so common. I also find that with old movies and actors. I'm now the age of Sean Connery in Diamonds Are Forever. I watch that and think he is old as shit and over the hill. Even watching his first Bond film. I feel he is decades older than I am now.

It's not just looks, I'm not going to lie but I look good for my age but it is not about that at all. There's something else. Maybe we all just have arrested development compared to older generations who grew up in smoke hourse with terrible aged skin.

I turned 41 yesterday and had a woman at work guess I was 30. She was obviously being a bit generous but I believe her reaction when I told her my actual age. I’m also a smoker lol

I do love the cyclical nature of fashion. Jemma’s clothes looked dated when I saw this last but now 24 years later it’s not so bad but the more recent seasons would look dated.

I wonder if we just remember people looking older than us? In addition to people genuinely looking older back then. Like people say how baby faced Leo was in titanic but I was a child myself, he still seems older than me when I watch it now.

People do look younger now but at the same time it trips me out how some teenagers can pass for 30 year olds. I don’t really get it.

The young ones don’t seem old to me at all as they’re only a handful of years ahead of me. Blair is only three years older. It’s those in their late 20’s and 30’s that will always be older. As for the fashions IDK it doesn’t feel as dated as they would have a few years ago before the revival of the 2000’s aesthetic.

Also I didn’t realize that Love Inc’s Broken Bones was THAT prominent in the show… I knew it had been used but thought it was just in promos. Think it would be fun to use another Love Inc song in this revival series. Would be kind of to use in the “best bits” packages on eviction night. For as old as it is this sounds very modern in 2025.

It will be interesting to see how the livestreams go for the 04-08 seasons. BB said in the chat something along the lines of, most of the tapes had already been digitised, it's just the older ones that were still on tapes. (I can't remember the exact wording)

Maybe from 04/05-08 are already digitised, so they may just post them into their own playlists, but I'd prefer the livestream. I only say that because I feel by 04/05 they seemed like they had it all figured out.

With the livestreams, people will have the chance to say what did and did not work etc. and BB can take notes.

I was in High school during the first couple years, I remember Jemma's thing being lip gloss, also Oakley sunnies went through a fad around 2001-2002ish I recall also.

There were a couple that seemed to be their go to's for Eviction night packages/Voting numbers and stuff. Something By Numbers 'Apple of the Eye (Lay Me Down)' I think was one during the later series, and I remember Uplate promoting Potbelleez 'Don't Hold Back' in 06 or 07 before it really took off iirc.

Yeah the Potbelleez Dj’d the entire 2007 finale, but I noticed one of their early tracks “Junkyard” was SMASHED on uplate in 2006. Like it backed literally every segment with Mike during one of the episodes I watched lol.

Rogue Traders were featured a tonne in 2006 after their appearance in the house too, and I remember hearing tonnes of Thirsty Merc’s “My Completeness” and “Emancipate Myself” in 2005

I only know Love Inc and that’s because they were a Canadian group.
