Channel 9 is stupid

As much as this didn't need its own thread I just think we should get Goon to pass this onto Alex M.

Why can Channel 9 show Embarrassing Bodies 9.30 and show a lot of nudity. Not only nudity but naaaasty disorders on private parts with no censorship at an earlier time yet we cannot get Big Brother Uncut or anything of the sort?

I just feel like this makes no sense.

Guess it fall into the documentary category

Not sure you would see much nude stuff isn't there a new Australian law that people can't be filmed in places that they could reasonably expect privacy so that would rule out shower and clothes changing scenes

Yeah I would definitely agree with that but if it's going to go into that much depth where I can see warts on someones penis at 9.30 is ridiculous. I think it's double standards on Channel 9's part.
Also the reason why uncut is so necessary is because we got other aspects of housemates that we never knew existed. This makes the show feel REAL and Embarrassing Bodies may fall under the doco but BB should fall under the reality category. We want reality uncut goodness for once, no more excuses 9!!

The difference between Embarrassing bodies and uncut is the gross factor, there isn't anything sexy or soft porn about EB.

You could say something like uncut was educational and such at times too. Didn't Gretel sometimes have some sort of expert on it at times to talk to?

That's what I mean. It's not all vulgar like it sometimes was, it was also pretty educational and just getting that raw footage of housemates nowadays is rare. Back then it wouldn't have mattered.

That's true, it's not just about the penis, it's about the context. The code is pretty clear on this stuff.

We need another network (SBS) to make a similar type show so there some competition

They would have to have the lame twists and manipulation and editing if they showed the house warts and all

Yes but what I'm trying to convey is that if 9 is so opposed to nudity why would such a program be on at an early time. I know BB is aimed at families and they're trying to maintain a squeaky clean image but the show feels lost without it. I know BB and EB are 2 entirely different programs it just doesn't feel right to me.

Because Nine are under the impression that BB viewers are too stupid to distinguish between the different programs, and consequently have decided to market the entire show as family friendly. Ten had the sense to target the different BB programs at completely different audiences. They even introduced the kids friendly FNL the very same year as they ramped up the sex factor on Uncut. Nine are also scared that Today Tonight will run a hatchet job on BB if they have an Uncut program.

It's a pathetic hypocrisy coming from a network that will happily flout broadcasting regulations when it will suit them. They even made the case to ACMA that Gordon Ramsey's 100+ "fucks" in one hour didn't constitute "frequent" swearing because when taken as a proportion of the overall words used within the program, swear words were in the minority. If they could only show a fraction of that ballsiness when it came to BB I'm sure we'd all be very grateful.

I agree. That show is gross  I can't watch. Changing Channel I saw just what you said, a very nasty disease on a very private part.

What's "gross" about watching a bunch of morally bankrupt doctors bring shame upon their profession as they exploit cash strapped people by having them expose their mutilated genitals on prime time television?

You got a split second full front of Matt in his undies tonight when he was getting changed for the cricket

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I specifically watch Embarrassing bodies exclusively for the warty penises.
And every single time, I think "I would rather live the rest of my life with a warty penis, rather than to broadcast it on television for all to see and laugh at!"

Hmm.. You must mean broadcast the shower/toilet scenes, because they definitely film in the toilet and shower, they've shown footage of both cameras on bb already this year, just no nudity.. So ..the filming happens, but the releasing of the footage, perhaps not.
