Big Brother is no longer a *reality TV Show*

I hate this show yet I make forum posts badmouthing it on the show's fan site. I'm a real fan I swear

I am a fan, just think this season is completely terrible! I am allowed to have an Opinion ;) Big brother has gone down hill, Many agree with me on here ;) Social Media is a Weirdo. You Can't handle the Truth hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! El Cheapo Big Brother, Honestly think they need to change the whole format/ more cohesive editing and stop over acting! This shit cray x[DOUBLEPOST=1416207783][/DOUBLEPOST]
Priya should win she is also normal smart and not a fame whore
I think Priya is a lovely person however she is boring to watch! Next please........ ;)

The worst thing I found this year was there was no real relationship building shown (they didn't have time I guess, Just alcohol) I mean one minute Sandra and Cat were laughing about having crushes on a couple of guys, a bit of chat shown between c and L and the next thing they are in the Sanctuary hooking up big time ( and obviously pissed.... let's face it, that's about the only time we see anything that could be called action, when they've had a few too many). Brings back memories of BB1 and BB2 when the alcohol was pretty much free flowing and the reason they had to have uncut! That's back in the old, old days. Aah memories.

Big Brother Australia is no more or less of a reality tv show than The Block, MKR, X Factor, etc..
For the better or worse reality tv has changed and it now incorporates a strong level of contrived soap opera drama to hook in the unwashed masses. It is what it is, but it isn't alone in that regard. *shrugs*

Yes it is a mess, but no, I don't want it gone. I just want 16 people of all different types cast - not all wannabes - and no game talk/strategy talk. That's why I watch Survivor. The evictions should not be such a big thing either - no talking to Sonia etc. with live audience, as I want the housemates to forget about the 'game' part of it as much as possible - their behaviour is so modified because of it. I really find the live shows so boring and annoying. I wish it would go back to how it was in the good ol' days.

You guys get the only thing scripted on Big Brother are the task reads right? None of the housemates are told what to say. Drives me nuts when I hear it is scripted, it's not Beauty & The Geek where contestants are fed lines.

I think part of the reason people think BB is scripted is because contestants these days are so versed in reality TV they know what to say.

You will NEVER recapture the feeling of Big Brother's early years. Ever. EVER. Those days are gone. People, even your mythical 'everyday' people know more about production than they ever did. Even the most 'regular' of people have seen Big Brother and know what to expect when they go into the house.

The type of person that applies to Big Brother has changed too, they all know why they are applying, the experience siren but also seeking a little bit of fame too.

I'm sick of reading all the whinging about contestants having a star now profile etc. a lot of people trying out for BB would, who would have thought people who want to go on a tv show wouldn't have tried it more than once.

oh and you know what, they are regular people too. Just because you have a star now profile doesn't suddenly mean you are Brad Pitt.

It's pretty fair to see that Skye, Travis, Priya and Ryab, Lina are all regular peeps...one or two might know someone famous, but you swing a cat these days and you're likely to hit a minor celeb you might know.

I just do not understand the argument hat suddenly they ain't regular people. People like Reggie are a dime a dozen, I think in this day and age you would be hard pressed to find another like her with that same sense of wonder about the experience.

What was my point again? Oh yeah lighten up. The show has changed. The world has changed. Big Brother has changed.

The Ten days are over. If it moves back to Ten it would not be the same show last time it was there.

But look on the bright side the Nine days look likely to be over too - so you guys can all sit back and feel smug about it being cancelled.

Very obvious to me that you are viewing the show from a different angle than the average fan; but frankly whatever your connection is is of no greater concern to me than something to acknowledge in passing conversation.

I agree, I don't think the show is scripted; no-one could be employed to write scripts so banal as what we've seen this year. Very few 'entertaining' moments this year. What we do have is a house overrun with with wannabes.
They've all done their homework & it's sadly amusing to see what each of them 'think' is entertaining or the 'winning personality'.

The show has attracted people with varying ideas of 'what it takes to win' after the season of BB04 (where the prize money went through the roof) Suddenly it was the latest 'get rich quick' scheme.

Can it go back? Well of course not & it would be instant death if they tried to; anyone in the industry could tell you that.

Are these HMs 'real people'? Some are, some are trying to be & some are so woefully fake or dumb or both that I worry for those peoples' futures. They really believe they are entertaining; some really think they are intelligent - the "reality" part of this show now is what happens once they are off it!

For those with a 'star profile' I think they have done more damage than good in going on the show. But then I guess that depends on what exactly they see as their future.

As terrible as it is this year, I'm of the opinion any BB is better than no BB. I mean I think it's awful this year, but I still watch it.

Having said that, yes it's no longer reality TV. I don't think it's scripted, just predictable. And naturally there's the lack of live updates on social media, which give us all the shits. But as it's no longer reality TV, I don't vote. Simple. Just watch, then ask myself "Why?"

Channel Nein is mostly to blame, moreso than Alex. Some of Alex's decisions, tasks, other stunts are predictable, or are the same/similar task as used in a previous year, such as the Freeze Task and the Remote task being similar. Alex has the opportunity to really cause some havoc amongst the HM's with tasks, yet why each year do they get a radio task? Yes, I know, it's kind of auditioning...

A new producer might have different ideas for tasks, so that would be the only thing they'd bring.

And obviously Channel Nein is more to blame, due to their weird times and scheduling. I think I also heard Alex had said that alot of the constant stunts are Nein's doing.

I would love to see it come back next year, but I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't. If it doesn't I can always watch BBUK.

The fact a few past housemates have spoken out on social media stating the show is scripted (some housemates are told to have fake arguments/ do stupid pranks etc) reason why It's no longer reality TV instead a scripted soap opera with the same predictable housemates. majority of them do have star now profiles who make it on, also the fact some past intruders have also stated they did not even audition, instead contacted through their agencies (makes it less real) more overly acted madness. Aka The Whole Justynn mess, (I agree, The housemates are told not what to say instead most situations have been played out by producers etc. the old big brother, years ago we had relatable housemates like reggie a fish and chip shop owner, not a bunch of horny good looking, star now profile housemates. These ones chosen do not reflect the Australia we live in, just the stereotypical and grotesque nature of TV shows becoming less and less real, trying to do more to win people over for ratings instead of just leaving them living in a house and us observing. I honestly do not see this a social experiment instead a poorly produced and cheap family Show! #PlaySchool Yes I love watching these shows because i am a fan of Bad reality shows, yes this makes me a hypocrite on this whole post but this is my opinion on why These year has been one big underachieving mess. Hope they can get a more realistic and better group of Aussies next year, that's if they have not been cancelled. Just your overly opinionated, social media addict aka Homosexual's view on one of my favourite bad (Junk food) reality TV Shows! back to the real world.......rant over! peace out xoxoxoxo ;) What the fark.........Just dance x
Social media is a weirdo.............
It's barbie bitch!

Yes, but if people are soooo savvy about being on tv, then, by all means, be entertaining! I have not been entertained as I was with last year's show. This season was crap because there was no one I was actively cheering for the win. When people get evicted, I just shrug my shoulders and say "next" I can't be bothered to care about any of them. If that makes any sense?

I don't mind people going in looking for fame. That was clearly on the minds of several housemates even in 2001. Johnnie Cass hoped to become an actor for example and in a followup special, did an acting audition which was politely viewed by someone from NIDA. In a similar vein, Gemma Gawned (also 2001) went in having already viewed tapes of BB UK. In the house she was known for slathering on loads of lip balm. After her eviction she opened a lip balm business and appeared on morning TV chat shows selling the stuff. Then Jess (2002) flapped around the house singing. After her eviction she admitted she hoped the show would "open doors" for her. (Jess had also previously appeared in another reality program - The Mole, I think.) And of course housemates from the 2001 and 2002 seasons did sometimes snag radio jobs. So by 2003, people auditioning for the show did know that that was a possibility, and to me there is nothing wrong with that.

As for Reggie (2003). Well I liked her a lot and was glad she won. However, even during her series, I was pretty convinced she wasn't quite so naive as she made out. I do think what we saw was basically genuine, but sometimes I think when she said something that got a reaction from other housemates as it was a bit cute, endearing, funny, unusual, etc. then she would seize that moment and really play it up.

Also, Reggie doing the housework wearing nothing but a black bikini? Pretty sure she was aware of her physical attractiveness and that that was pretty contrived. She also once sat by the pool in her black bikini, legs apart, shaving her bikini line.

Like many others, my problem with Nine's Big Brother is that there aren't regular daily shows charting each day in the house sequentially. That and the seemingly choppy editing makes it difficult to follow threads or gain a real insight into the personalities of the housemates. Live feeds would help too.

I think the main difference today is not that people go on to gain media exposure and be 'discovered', it is that people go in more open about wanting to win, and more open about strategy and playing the game. And that makes the show better in my opinion. But it is let down by the incomprehensible editing.

Why are people this year suddenly talking about how Big Brother used to be a "social experiment"? Big Brother has always been a TV show, for entertainment. Never has it been a "social experiment". TV producers do not make "social experiments", they make TV shows. If a group of sociologists put people in a house and viewed them (without taping it and without putting it on TV) then that might be a "social experiment". I watched for years on Ten and they never said it was a "social experiment" (nor "reality"), and fans never seemed to ever use that phrase in forums. It seems only this year I've noticed that term being used by viewers of the show. I know the Big Brother Wikipedia article used to use the term "social experiment", maybe it came from there?

I Agree with what you said about Reggie and Disagree! Reggie's are NOT a dime a dozen. She is one of the most unique characters ever to live the true bb experience. She was the greatest ever winner IMO. Plz pick it up - SBS
