Rewatch Big Brother 2008 YouTube stream (Starts 7am 25 Oct)

I honestly don't remember much from this season, which is odd because I went to a few of the live shows, including the Pamela Anderson one. I think I was disappointed with Kyle & Jackie O being hosts, mainly Kyle 😅

I'll still watch the stream obviously 😂

Really hoping Big Mouth is included somehow! That show was predominantly a hybrid of 2001’s Saturday and 2003’s The Insider with sprinkles of Uncut content. It’d be a huge shame to lose the panel discussions, special guests and other content due to a small handful of shower scenes. I’d totally prefer them to omit or heavily censor any rude bits over excluding episodes entirely. But I’m betting they won’t make the live stream.

Last week they said this about it:
@BigBrotherAU: “We have Big Mouth tapes but have not confirmed if they are appropriate to include in the stream yet, legal may insist they are digitised offline like Uncut was. One option is for it to get digitised offline and cleaned up for proper upload when it is time to put S8 into a playlist

🤞

I'm going to hate watch this season. Well, dipping in and out and skipping FNL and nominations as usual. With the exception of S1 and S3, these streams actually been the first time I have rewatched the old seasons.

BB did say they were considering streaming FNL separately, meaning the season could be condensed into one weekend. But they were going to time it out to see.

With all the highlights I remember from this session, I could get though it in one night.

I have noticed they are starting at 8pm again, last few sessions started at 7pm.

I am pretty keen for this. I don’t hate this season, I mean it’s awful and was just so very clearly the end and, aside maybe from Brigitte, has nothing redeeming about it, but it’s definitely not dull or boring and somehow feels super nostalgic in a way I can’t explain.

Zero interest in FNL, not even the first episode with Rima but Timmy saying in a previous thread that you you can just rewind it to catch up changed my life 😂

I’m also curious to see if my perspective on Terri will change. There have been a few housemates I have liked on these streams that I never particularly liked previously, but surely Terri will not be among them. I am going in with an open mind.

I had a Topfield PVR in Sydney, and it revolutionised my TV watching experience by being able to hit record, wait 20-30 minutes and then start watching the show and skipping through the ads until you caught up to real time. That PVR was my most prized possession. I'm pretty sure I didn't have it until after BB had ended its run on Ten unfortunately though. But being able to watch shows in near real-time, ad-free was like a gift from dog. So it's natural for me to watch these streams the same way.

This marathon should be fun to hate watch.

The episode of South Park where the boys claim to have watched George Lucas and Steven Spielberg rape Indiana Jones (by producing and releasing Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull) comes to mind... 😂 😂 😂

I couldn't care less about her politics. I began to dislike her for a really different reason: After rewatching this season a few years ago I thought she was a suck-up to the popular housemates like Rory and Bridgit. There was even this 'chameleon effect' in her as she began to mimic Bridgit later in the series so she gets "accepted" by them (even though they couldn't stand her). She also began to look down upon Travis, since he wasn't the popular person in the house and the group did belittle him often. I totally despise this behaviour - imitating the popular group, whilst you also degrade the person that they target.

Now about this season in general, I thought the housemates were an interesting pack, very nasty type. I liked the strong female figures too - The beginning of the season had a lot of fights and bitchiness that revolved around Bianca, Dixie, Rebecca, Renee, etc.

Terrible memory of the series as well. After Pamela enters the house, I get the worst gastro. Ukh! 🤦‍♂️

To me that analogy is more like the Kris Noble era as I do think in general that what was done in ‘08 was an honest but clearly failed attempt at a refresh. I also think you can tell that some of the gimmicks were a result of crisis meetings where production were basically told to throw whatever at the wall and make it stick… or else!

Kris on the other hand hated criticism, didn’t have much of a vision, aside from a few gems couldn’t cast to save his life, and in general crumbled under 10’s mandates. FNL is easily the most era defining element introduced under his watch. Which was hardly an original concept nor was it executed that well. Not to mention the crowd it brought in to the BB fold made the Uncut/AO/Turkey Slap controversy much harder to shake as the show was seen as trying to have their cake and eat it too.

IDK maybe it’s just me 💁🏼‍♂️

Same and I don’t blame them for trying something different. They should have acted quicker on the things that didn’t work though. But I feel like they couldn’t even figure out why things were not working.

Before they switched back to the traditional eviction process, they started to read out the eviction numbers very slowly. And I’ve always wondered if they genuinely thought that after 7 years, people were not able to keep up with the phone numbers anymore… when in fact the main issue was that people don’t have any incentive to vote until after FNL when they would reveal the bottom 3 in the strategy room.

I don’t remember the all the details but swapping evictions/nominations was to accommodate Kyle & Jackie O’s schedule as they were still hosting their radio show full time in addition to BB. I’m also not certain production had much say in them being brought on board and were likely left working backwards as a result. It also kind of explains why they were slow to revert back to the original format.

Yeah I’m definitely very fatigued by this and I have enjoyed the streams when I have been able to watch them but I am also glad to be at the end.

I think this one I have to keep entirely on my phone too. I have previously had it on in the tv in the background or sometimes listened to the audio like a podcast but this one is possibly too embarrassing to have on the tv.

They may take note of the chat and see what worked and what didn't, but mind you, most of the time the chat is just nonsensical dribble. The only highlight is when former housemates drop in. It will be interesting to see the differences between 07 and 08 though.
