Big Brother 2001 episodes on official YouTube channel (Live streamed Aug 1-3)

Yes - might be best to hold off on the later series and concentrate on BB1-3 which really generate the old school nostalgia and remind people why they loved Big Brother. Some of the later series may remind them more why they fell out of love with it.

Speaking of CBB, You know what I also had a passing thought about the other night, with the shorter season length and all this nostagia for OG TEN era BB, WHAT IF they could be building the casting towards some kindof Ch 10 AllStars/Celeb Vs Civilian Season to kick things off and thats what the casting turns into for this year, then go full on with the first full length Civilian season next year?

There were still many housemates they didnt use in 7's 2022 season that they could approach without having to throw Reggie or Farmer Dave etc again for a third go so soon iykwim. Also there could be a bit of a Gen Vs Gen angle (kinda like 7's go at it) as many of them would be in the 30's-50's age range now, or there could be a couple rando Celebs thrown in for the I'm A Celeb/CBB vibe perhaps. Just an idea.

I've been thinking this also.

HD was a very loose definition for a while. People buying 720p flat panels under HD. most HD TVs were only 1080i capable for quite a while. Even the broadcasts were 720p or 1080i for a long time in the HD era. Even when you watch a HD broadcast of a show on blu-ray from the 2000s. It doesn't look great by todays standards.
HD in production is a bit of a misnomer. Many shows up until recently were taped in 720p and "upscaled" for broadcast in 1080i. Most shows now tape in either 2K or 4K. 10 was not using HD equipment back in 2001 - it's interesting they were using widescreen at the time, which generally coincides with HD. My guess is they likely cropped for 16:9 broadcast and shot 4:3 safe.
Yeah I remember we had a set top box around the mid 2000's, that would have 'digital' broadcasts where the show would go outside the borders of typical 4:3 ratio and I remember thinking that was really cool.

Then we upgraded our TV in 2008 (iirc It was literally right around the day of the BB08 finale, July 20-something) and I remember Watching the Beijing 2008 Olympics and Australian Idol etc on the HD channels and it was pretty clear. (TENHD used to play test patterns of nature or scenic landscapes and stuff back then I think in place of ad breaks or only a few ads cant recall).

The next year 2009 is when a lot of that 'Freeview' stuff started iirc and all the changeover projects from analog to digital, plus Mutlichannels started really ramping up like the Launch of GO, 7TWO and so on. theres probably a wikipedia rabbit hole all about the exact timeline.

But yeah also around 2009 is when there was that big VEVO project with the music videos on Youtube (at a time when 720p was like one of the better quality levels for Youtube videos you could select iirc, and like some have said was considered under the 'HD' category.

I remember the first HD TV we got. Remember it looking so amazing. It was a widescreen sony CRT screen. Small screen size compared to today but at the time it was big and heavy. Apparently retro gaming nerds pay a decent amount for them today because it's CRT.

Season 3 is my fave of all time, so I can’t wait for them to live stream it (hope it’s not monthly!). The first season a boring guy who didn’t really contribute anything to the show didn’t win! 😃

Honestly, at this rate I’d be more than okay if they only decide to upload 2001-2003. Bonus if they do CBB too (I mean hey, it was short enough!).

Of all the original rips, 2003 and CBB were always the worst quality and extremely low res. All things considered, everything from 2004 onwards still exists in full and in relatively great quality. So even to have just the first three (and a bit) seasons in HQ and widescreen would be absolute heaven.

In saying that, they’ve already been heavily promoting 2004 with clips of Fitzy, Bree and Trev, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they eventually upload 2004 too.

Well take note BB, what you're doing is absolutely amazing and we cannot thank you enough for your efforts. Whoever is doing the digitising and finding the lost theme music is doing God's work 🙏 Celebrity BB would be amazing to see in its original quality, I've only ever seen a "bank security camera" quality version lol

I’m curious why there’s a 1-3 minute discrepancy in a lot of the uploads, compared to the length of the original rips. Is it more than just the credits cut?

I still can’t view the videos while away from Aus.

(Not a complaint, of-course…for a change 😜)
