Ben is a Fake!

I guess it gives us an understanding as to why he is so good at the comedy routines and things he says/does with the housemates getting them into hysterics, and also shows he knows to work the nerdy/hopeless side of himself to get the laughs and sympathy etc
He seems to have great timing, and probably talks and looks to the cameras for effect etc.
I bet the HM's will be surprised he did stand-up because of what they assume/think is his life story.
I wonder if any of the evictees know? maybe Bert & Patti will get him some work as a support act?

The opening post has a link from 2007. Yes Ben has done a couple of stand-up gigs. But where are all the reviews of his shows from the years in-between?
Everybody can see that Ben has talent as a performer. He should be doing acting/standup comedy. He has talent. It looks to me like he dallied with the performing arts a few years ago (as many people do) but it has obviously never taken him anywhere. He is still a regular person. Most comedians I know (and I have known quite a few from amateur to seriously professional) base their comic persona completely around their own eccentricities. That is where the best material comes from.

I absolutely agree with this. So what if he did some stand up 6 years ago? That does not make him a fake. I have a very close friend who does stand up and is very socially awkward. My friend makes absolutely no money from stand up - he cleans business premises to make a living.

None of this makes Ben any more fake than any one else in there. And for all we know, this may be common knowledge in the house. Just because we haven't seen him mention it, doesn't mean he hasn't.

Maybe that's how he was then, but now he's lost all his friends and just started living a hermit life apart from contact with mum and nan.

And I am going to win the Miss Universe contest.

I don't think Ben is a complete fake or even a fake per say. I do believe he is in it to win it HARD and is exaggerating the helpless grown man act to gain sympathy. The traits he's portraying; helpless, emotional, anxious, fragile, ditzy, are all traits I don't find appealing in the least so he doesn't have my vote but it appears he has the backing of a lot of Australia so good luck to him!

Some are so blinded that they cannot see the truth
even if he would say After BB it was all an act they still would not believe it
you are being fooled by Ben,deal with it!

For those that are all, 'oh so what he did stand up, proves nothing.'

His entire persona on the show is someone who is sheltered, picked on, no confidence, a delicate man baby. Where the simplest task has him crying begging the house mates to not hate him.

This does not at all gel with the fact he did stand up comedy. Unless he'd get on stage and have a cry that people will hate him if they don't think he's funny.

I'm not being fooled by anyone. I could not give a rats arse if Ben has been acting this entire time. In fact if he has, he deserves to win more than anybody. What I do believe is that a 6 year old article doesn't prove anything.

To stand up on stage & do anything in front of people seems to be in exact opposition to what Ben portrays to the HM's & viewers...

I'd much prefer someone else to win BB than a person who attempts to win by deceiving the viewers he wants to vote for him...

I don't particularly give a rat's arse either EXCEPT for the fact that he's been given so much special treatment & allowances - for those reasons he does NOT deserve to win - whether he is acting or not.

It proves a lot. It shows how he is presenting himself is the most dishonest of any housemate. Then Ben on the show could and would never be able to do stand up. He cries at the drop of a hate, constantly upset thinking people will hate him, looking for approval. Everyone is all, 'oh you're coming out of your shell.' He presents himself to the others and the audience as a poor, unconfident, picked upon, sensative, sheltered guy. Everyone has sympathy for him. Everyone excuses him from basic tasks. He is held to the lowest standard by the house mates, by big brother and by the audience.

As to if he deserves to win or not, that's another story. It's up to the individual. The problem I have is that it seems people like him for the Ben show. Not for him being part of the Big Brother show. Acting like a baby is not a trait I think should be rewarded. I also think the sympathy angle is really quite low and manipulative of peoples good nature. We know people play act on the show, adapt. This however is to another level. Coming in the house and doing a Mr Bean act. I'm sorry but that's not why I watch Big Brother. What next? Next year we have a clown in the house who stands in a corner and juggles all day every day? That's not what the show is about and it shouldn't be rewarded.

Others may disagree, up to them.

Ben's been playing to the cameras from the get go. He went in there with an iron clad persona, and he very rarely breaks character. Props to him for the hard work, but I'd prefer to see some genuine HMs without pre-existing media careers. Show ponies I can handle, but ambitious wannabes using BB as an extended audition gets pretty boring after awhile (that goes for Tim too). This, in conjunction with the manipulative editing...why call it reality TV?

oh dear...I'm growing tired of all this "fake" shit!!

The only one to have put his hand up for "acting" was that Tim douche from way back and could someone remind me how close he got to winning??.....Personally I think he may have discussed tactics beforehand hand, went in and found out you can only be yourself, left and was embarrassed when watching back and decided to write it up to make himself feel better ( I think the book was a fake!)........and since then we have had to cop the constant speculation about HMs "fakeness"...please...
BB is an unscripted soap, BB sets the environment and the HMs reactions and words are there own (real) within that environment!! Anyone holding back or trying to act usually get found out and go!

Why could Ben not be who he portrays in the house and yet have done some stand-up? Because he doesn't fit someone elses perception of what a stand-up should be....c'mon...
If Ben gets up I say good on him! ....he would be a deserving winner....as would Tim....with Jade as a smokey!

1. Stand up comedians are often shy and awkward in real life.
2. a few gigs he may have had 6 years ago does not make him a stand up comedian or an actor.
3. He is entertaining. Just because you don't like him or what he does, doesn't make it any less true.
4. The show is about people living in a house and the tv viewing public watching them. People then vote or not. People are voting for Ben. That's their prerogative. If he is acting in such a way that he gets people voting for him, he should be rewarded. That is the point of the game.
5. I'm not even a Ben fan, but calling him "a fake" based on an article and piece of information that means bugger all in the scheme of things was worth commenting on, but not continuing with.
6. Bored now.

Probably another one BB picked from a talent agency...seems like theyre all from a talent agency these days.

I think it's such a shame we haven't seen more of the funny, real Ben & less of the favouritism & fake, pathetic Ben. I think I would have liked & appreciated him a lot more.

Then Ben on the show could and would never be able to do stand up.

Bollocks. I do stand-up. The everyday, garden-variety "me" - frequently anxious, awkward, idiosyncratic etc - would never be able to do stand-up. That's why stand-up is rehearsed, with a slightly exaggerated (often in terms of confidence/brashness) persona frequently adopted.
