BBUS 23 (includes live feed and episode spoilers)

I’m very much looking forward to BBUS, especially now that I’m well finished my binge. It will be the first series I’ve attempted live in over 6 years so I’m very excited for some live big brother to watch.

Just hoping that All Stars has drawn a line under the last few years and the show takes the steps it has long needed to move forward.

It won't so I won't waste too much of my hope on them, but would be nice if they did.

Things announced in the Clubhouse event... The theme of the BB House this year is “BB Beachclub”. The show premieres July 7th. It also sounds like the premier is once again live as Julie said she’d be hosting the “live move in premier”.

For the most part I doubt much has changed I’m excited to see the cast. 50% BIOPIC casting worked extremely well for BBCAN and the change in casting director should add something new.

Glad they're doing a live move in and if that is what we get out of All Stars then it wasn't a complete wasted of time. Hope they cut it to an hour though and just have one HoH comp rather than 4 heats of the same thing and a final. The main benefit though is first week feeds.

It’s a 90 minute premiere so no doubt they’ll stick with a similar format.

Think the last one was 2 hours though so the shorter running time should improve things.
I’m not sure it will improve much as with a live launch they don’t have much they can fall back on.

On another note hopefully with the show starting in July this year they go with a smaller cast. 2011 was the last time we had a cast of 14... I also can’t see them extending the season past the traditional end date so we’re looking at 75 - 80 day run time.

I'd be surprised if it was less than 16, especially as All Stars really dragged in the final weeks - although that was there own fault for having the triple eviction. Should at least have ended that with one of the three going back in. A 7th July start though probably means a 10-11 week run, so it is a significant cutback.

I see Love Island is also premiering the same night (the other 90 minutes I guess) so they'll be running side by side again. Given the ratings of it pretty clear CBS just keep hold of it so it isn't competition for Big Brother, though it would probably be better suited on The CW or Paramount+.

Was confirmed in the Clubhouse event that as well as the house having a beach club look the series will have a "high stakes" twist with a "Big Risks and Big Rewards theme".

So essentially a casino/beach club theme which is hopefully a more fleshed out theme than BBCAN 4. That said I can imagine the theme is just another rehashing of the ever changing weekly competitions/powers for the beginning weeks followed by a few other themed twists later in the series.

Personally I think a much more subdued approach should be in order... Similar to how BB10 went back to basics and relied mostly on the cast to do more of the heavy lifting in terms of carrying the season.

I'm sure the US have done some kind of beach house before - then again they've done 23 seasons.

Agree on a back to basics approach would be good this year but with new format elements introduced which are intended to be around long term rather than just for this season or even part of it, replacing those ever changing comps.

While I agree moving forward will require some sort of fundamental and lasting change to the format... I think a season of renewed focus on the basics is warranted prior to a reboot or refresh. I feel like the show needs some momentum and starting with an uneventful yet compelling series is a great base to start from.

The breakdown seems like a rough draft... I think it’s likely there’s some truth to this rumour.

The other cast rumour is harder to judge... It sounds too good to be true. That said with CBS also running Love Island it might be better to push more influencer to that show.

Also with the premiere airing live this year it seems likely (and I hope) that we won’t have a cast reveal until the premiere. If anything I think a shadow reveal a day or two prior is the best way to go. That way we’re still getting a taste of the cast and it’s a great way to keep fans busy speculating and social media stalking.

It was 90 F today in the LA area, so at least we are going to see a lot of outdoor activities. Fingers crossed for who they choose but especially looking forward to 24/7 feed again

Loved BBCan, so let's keep being hopeful. Chenbot aka Mrs Les Moonves has a lot on her plate
