BBAU's Housemates are really quite nice, even Ben.

compared to BBUS's Houseguests. This is my very first ever season on BB outside of the US and I can't tell you all how much I am enjoying it. (just wish there were live feeds). The game itself is so different and maybe that is why the housemates are so much more likable than the US version. They are also much more affectionate. Honest question is being so affectionate cultural or is it just what happened with this group of housemates? Thanks alot for any answers and just for trolls sake, I am not a 12 yr old racist homophobe:p. In fact I sadly am older than most of the housemates.

This is my first time watching BBAU and I'm an avid BBUS follower (I'm from Canada though). I've only seen one other foreign BB and that was BBUK Celeb season with Shilpa Shetty and Jade Goody.

I've been a member of this forum for a few weeks now but I've just been lurking even though I come on here daily.

I don't know if I think these housemates are nicer than the BBUS housemates as much as they are more fake around the people they don't like so as to keep up appearances. They are more touchy feely than the American cast, I'll admit that.

I've enjoyed the season so far though livefeeds would have been a lot better to have (and I'm very excited BBCanada will have them for their new series) and the whole repetition of nominees was/is very stale. Hoping for a 'cool group' member (Zoe) exit this week to shake things up a bit.

I would say this is fairly in line with the way BB AU generally is. The cool group controlling nominations is just the kind of thing that can always happen. I don't recall it being so bad or the same sort of issue in past seasons.

The show is quite a different one to that in the states. Although all I have seen of that was about half a season a couple years back.

On you tube there are past seasons if you want to flick to random episodes of them to see.

I think BBUS is a completely different type of show to BBAUS and BBUK.

I think from what I've heard the US version is seem much more as a game and being cut throat is the game. Whereas BBAUS is more the social experiment thing with a bit of game chucked in, so it isn't constantly about game plans and who to attack next - though that does exist in a more controlled form. Never watched BBUS, but it does seem to be purely about strategy and nice or not nice personalities doesn't come in to it. Is that right? Were Aus is meant to be more relaxed. But I think if you want to see a more general, how people get along stuck in a house, see the good and bad, BBAUS is the one to watch as the show isn't based on being competitive and having the killer game plan.

Even though I'm finding I haven't a fav and don't really like any of the HM's, I still enjoy watching. I don't really dislike anyone either, although I'm finding Sam hard to stomach! But after the depressing BBUK, this did seem more light and fun. Although now they're nearing to the end, the bitching seems to have come to life in full.

BBAUS I think is the family version of part social experiment, part game BB. BBUK is the adult version, part experiment part game. BBUS the competitive game. Guess it depends what sort of BB you like. Or of course you could like all three for different reasons.

I find I enjoy both BBUS and BBAUS for very different reasons. I like the social experiment in BBAUS and how BB interacts with the HMs. I am also enjoying the challenges aspects of BBAUS, the Captian's Quaters challenge is somewhat similar to the HoH challange in BBUS, nice room, extra food your own toilet ect, but the HoH is there for a week and nominates the HGs for eviction. BBUS is cutthroat, we do have live feeds, which allow those of us who pay for them to see what the HGs are really like compared to their TV edit(talk about eye opening).

I agree that the nature of the BBAUS game lends itself to less back-stabbing and negative behavior because the HMs have to keep up appearances to gain the support of those voting. There has been talk on BBUS message boards in the past of what would happen if they intruduced an extra final vote for the winner from the viewing public. Die-hard BBUS fans vehemently oppose this because they say it would prevent HGs from saying their true feelings in the diary rooom for fear of the public disliking them.

An honest question for those from Australia: My good friend who moved to Australia from the US constantly rants and raves about how amazing and warm the people are. She says people she meets are almost all truly kind and not fake to your face and stab you in the back like in the US. Her statements seem to be supported by most of the people in the BBAUS house. But then when I come to this board omg there is alot of hate coming out of Oz. Is it that many people from Australia are fake like in the BB house or are these the trolls on the internet that are nasty in real life too? Honest question, please don't get mad at me.

There's a marked difference between the US and AU Amazing Race as well with the former being a lot more openly hostile to other teams. Overall Aussies are pretty laid back and have a strong sense of good sportsmanship and fair play. That's not to say they can't or won't be dicks, but usually they're pretty friendly.

In regard to the board, on the net it's easy to let your inner troll out because there are few consequences. I'm not sure all are from OZ and some should probably be under parental supervision ;)

LOL yes they are easy to pick. :D

It depends really. I think you'll find the average skip (anglo aussies) being very welcoming and enthusiastic about meeting foreigners from Europe (especially from northern europe think irish, scandinavians, dutch etc) and other 'western' countries such as candada and the states. That friendliness though doesn't quite translate to people from outside those nations, for example asian, indians etc don't hold quite the same interest given there are thousands of them already settled in Australia. Although I think Latin Americans do intrigue the average 'white' aussie as there relatively few in Australia compared to the US so they're relatively well received for people that are not considered to be from fellow "First World" countries.

If you plan to live here long term (or say at least 6 months) then the brand new toy vibe will eventually shine off and on the whole I'd say Australians are slightly friendlier than the average yank but probably not by as much as you think.

I vacationed in the us earlier this year and can't say I came back thinking us aussies are far friendlier. Maybe our accents helped. We visited tourist traps vegas and orlando though.

I work in public service and deal with people from cruises and americans can be downright rude.

The banter here is more like the habit of 'taking the piss out of someone'. ie having a joke at their expense
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taking_the_piss
Taking the piss is a British term meaning to take liberties at the expense of others, or to be unreasonable. It is often used (or confused) with taking the piss out of which is an expression meaning to mock, tease, ridicule, or scoff.[1] It is also not to be confused with "taking a piss", which refers to the actual biological act of urinating. Taking the Mickey (Mickey Bliss, Cockney rhyming slang) or taking the Michael is another term for making fun of someone. These terms are most widely used in the United Kingdom, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand and Australia."

We are more friendly than New Yorkers, those people can be rude!

Australians are a bit like Californians.
Typically when you are greeted as 'mate' people believe it. You are a friend unless proved otherwise.

Having an American accent is a novelty here & you will be treated well.

I grew up and lived in California for 33 years. The second sentence above is not California. For the most part California is extremely fake, and people will stab you in the back as they hug you. I never saw how plastic the Cali society was until I travelled outside as an adult. And I lived in Northern Cali which is much less fake than So Cal! I was shocked to see that the rest of the country wasn't mostly a size 4 or smaller with numerous body/face surgeries to look a certain way. I was so immune to the illness of the Cali society that I nearly killed myself to be a size 0 and people thought that was healthy!
All I can tell you is the best thing I ever did was sell my house, make a profit and move to another state where the country people I live near are real, help each other and there is native vegetation and lots of land to hike and run in without worry of being jumped by a gang member (as it was in Cali - even in nice areas). I hate to sound so down on the state, but it has changed so much in the past 10 years. I have no regrets and there isn't enough $$ in the world to ever get me to move back there.
