2002 because it had a really weak cast and poor pacing. Produced well but has not aged very well as a television product over time.

I agree with 2002 because it’s so boring but since it’s not on your list I will say 2008. I didn’t totally hate it but there were too many drastic changes to every component and the vibe felt quite different it was almost like a spin off series or something, and their repeated blatant favouritism to have their racist winner was too much. I did love Brigitte though!
I didn’t like 2005 with the boys club and the “sexy singles” angle and really didn’t like the winner at all but it had some entertaining moments and still felt like I was watching BB.

05 cast just didn’t have many likeable people in it for me. And 08 I didn’t watch at the time but watched on YT many years later but it’s just not the same without Gretel. In saying all that though there’s not a season in the 10 era I didn’t enjoy and I can’t see anything they do now measuring up to the good old days. Still excited for it to return though.

The entire Kris Noble era… 2008 I think deserved a sequel and was kind of a victim of circumstance as they were obviously under pressure from 10 to get ratings up. I can appreciate that they at least tried to do something different regardless of whether thier ideas worked or not.

Personally I loved Noble's era. Controversy was my favourite part of 10s original run as it made people talk, good or bad, and the omg factor was great. Granted, I was in high school at this time and the attractive housemates he was inclined to cast were what I was interested in watching at the time. That being said, I never cared for Love Island as an adult. I have great memories from this time, regardless of whether it's aged well or not. I've loved re-watching it all. Same goes for the more controversial series from Channel 4 days - BBUK5? Yes please. The entire Kris Noble era… 2008 I think deserved a sequel and was kind of a victim of circumstance as they were obviously under pressure from 10 to get ratings up. Wahoo!
2005. It was the first season Kris Noble really got to put his hands over everything, and it started the decline that led to show's demise. With different decisions made, things in later years could've been much different.
The cast was mostly unlikeable and the recent marathon was quite painful to watch until towards the end.

because i could do a catchy title, and because each of them had something very noteworthy caused /or influenced by producers impacting ratings. Why limit this to those seasons? 2 and 8 were the worst. 8 for the producer manipulation and the horrible winner, and 2 for being bloody boring. Special mention to 5 for the bogan boys' club casting.

That's fair. It seems Big Brother went from a groundbreaking social experiment under Peter Abbott, to a ratings chasing reality TV show, under Kris Noble.2005. Noble joined just as the show was in its peak of scaling up, there were huge expectations to keep the show’s audience growing year after year from both 10 and SSE. Kris Noble had only really worked on scripted drama programming prior to BB, shows that focus on a character’s highest highs and lowest lows, that’s all he knew how to produce.to a ratings chasing reality TV show, under Kris Noble.
He simply wasn’t professionally equipped to take on the role of EP for a show like Big Brother, however that doesn’t mean he wasn’t a good producer, he would’ve been ace as the EP of a show like The Bachelor where the show relies on OTT production.

Ah this makes sense now looking at the change in style that came from the 04 season. I found it was around that time where the edit started to focus more on the narrative rather than the individuals, and also the airtime distribution was starting to become less shared as well.Noble joined just as the show was in its peak of scaling up, there were huge expectations to keep the show’s audience growing year after year from both 10 and SSE. The Abbott years are so much more genuine. This youtube binge has kind of made me shift my whole view on some seasons. I feel I appreciate 2003 a lot more now and my opinion on 2004 and 2005 has dropped a lot. 2001 still reigns supreme IMO, in my opinion its the best season but I can also understand the argument for 2003 being considered the best.

I think the biggest shortfall of the Noble era is he didn’t know what to do when there was nothing happening, rather than leaning into the boredom which arguably produced the best moments during the Abbott era.Ah this makes sense now looking at the change in style that came from the 04 season. When you’re mainly casting horned up housemates from bogan-y backgrounds, eventually a few of them are going to cross the line.

Great perceptive, I love the way you've articulated that! I so agree the boredom part almost feels like a subtheme that reality tv used to lean into whereas modern RTV shows almost make it look like they never get bored.I think the biggest shortfall of the Noble era is he didn’t know what to do when there was nothing happening, rather than leaning into the boredom which arguably produced the best moments during the Abbott era.

Yes, Vesna made that year but I still didn''t watch the entire season and I've never wanted to.I'm currently watching 2005 and I'll place my vote for it. It's so boring and too perverted (they're all so horny, sheez), and the male housemates are unbearable. Vesna is the only good thing about it. She fits better in the 2006 season...

Tossing up between 7 and 8. 8 had awful people but was more interesting to watch because they were so awful. 7 was pretty boring once Bodie, TJ and Emma left and the final 2 were the only people in the final few weeks who were interesting to watch.

The manipulation was bullshit. I, however, will always think fondly of that season. That was the first season I was very active on the forums during its run. Maybe as a way to make it more enjoyable, or maybe life slowed down as I was moving into the latter half of my 20s. So I could spend more time watching BB and posting online instead of being in bars and seeing music. It is a period in my life when I got fat. May or may not be related.*
Maybe part of that fondness was talking crap about it but I had a good time and its due to everyone here. It's why I've come back to discuss all later seasons, except for Channel 7's celebrity one, because I was busy that week and never watched it. Even in the 7 Era, there was enjoyment watching it with everyone on here.
With 8, I remember the Nobbi drama and the van punishment backfiring as it became his clubhouse. I hated Terrance and Terri. I genuinely found Bianca to be an entertaining housemate.
A gif BB Australia fans can hear.

*fit and strong now, work out 5 days a week and still have time to post here, even during the dead times.
