…AI ART… a fun game using words to create pictures… no artistic talent required…

…even though it didn’t produce what I wanted… they still are beautiful images and would be great in a terrarium… here are the final two… cheers.

I was actually going to ask do you think the quality of the images has improved over time? Is it getting closer to what you want it to look like? Better quality? How do you feel about that? I know you are using it for enjoyment and I have no problems and enjoy looking at what you create.

As a photographer I stopped using it as it felt less fulfulling than going and taking a photo to me. I can see its uses - eg my Isee image is something I could never have drawn and its better than stealing an image off the internet (which is actually what my last avatar was). Most photo editing sottware and cameras now have AI features in it so it is almost impossible to get away from it altogether but it is about how I choose to engage with it so that I feel my work is my own. I think I am still trying to work that out as I am having to learn new software (I ditched Adobe photoshop)

Sorry I rambled.

It is getting better. But I really hate how AI is taking over FB with fake images presented as being real. People starting bot pages with AI generated content for clicks. I hate having to study pictures trying to decide if they're real or fake. If you ask the AI chatbots like Chat GPT or Gemini questions, the results are full of incorrect information. And it all takes a vast amount of processing power and electricity to generate. Having fun generating cute and funny images is one thing, but I think overall AI is a really bad idea. The internet is already full of lies and disinformation and AI is just making it worse.

yeah that sums up my thoughts on a lot of that side of it as well. I started to say some of that but didn't want to sound too negative! I hate these people saying "oh yes this is my photo I climbed this mountain", and so you have to look at the lighting and shadows and notice they don't match. I am not sure what people get out of lying to random people on the internet about taking a photo? But all the other misinformation from chat bots etc is just dangerous and frustrating. I already trusted very little that I read on the internet or news, and now I am struggling to trust even that!

They're going to race towards making the dead internet theory real. There's so many ways the introduction of fake AI people could disrupt society.

I've been using Grok lately for queries and summaries of information. It seems pretty decent so far, but then how would I know if I told it to summarise a long article if it missed key points?

Search engines have gotten worse over the years through manipulation. AI seems to have come out of the gate with plenty of manipulation in what information it will give or not give. It's so open to manipulation, there almost needs to be strict rules to prevent that but then how would we know?

…what a great post Isee… this is my response… I hope that I have answered your question with the response it deserves… here goes… the quality of the AI has improved vastly in the past year alone and now comes extremely close to the exact images that you ask for now… imagine how good and accurate it will be a year into the future?…

…I see the use of AI (in Art and images) in a few different perspectives…

1)… a person that uses AI images in art projects such as myself at times should NEVER make a claim that it’s their artwork… if you do use AI images there is no shame to say that it’s AI generated… and that AI has helped you create that particular final artwork… but if you do use AI you should state that you used it… why try and pass it off as solely your work?…

…before my major near death stroke in 2019 I used to paint and draw all of my life since 10 years of age… when I had the stroke I was now unable to do that anymore… I was totally devastated… so I had to adapt to release my artistic nature somehow… so I taught myself Photoshop purely as a release… with Photoshop any image that you finally release is of images ‘borrowed’ off other peoples images off the Internet… it usually takes hours and hours of trawling through hundreds of images for the right image that you need… as is in the image of a person for instance… is the image at the right angle?… are the shadows in the direction that you need?… is it the pose that you need for the image you want?… is that image cost free so that you can use it?… is it copywrited?… then when you need… say a dozen different images to make the final artwork… you have to do that for each image over and over… it becomes very tedious as you can imagine…

…with AI… you write down exactly what you want and you have what you want… it takes a mere few minutes as opposed to hours and hours of searching on the Internet… it’s cost free… not copywrited… it’s so much easier to create artwork now as you can imagine… if you lift parts of the images off it to use in your artwork so be it… but why not mention that it was AI assisted?… you borrowed other peoples images to create your Photoshops before off the Internet… you’re using AI to help you now… so what’s the difference?… but using a whole AI generated image and passing it off as your work is so wrong… you’re a liar!…

2)…even though it’s AI generated images… they are only generated because of YOUR imagination… YOU created it… it would not even exist if it wasn’t created by YOU… so therefore it’s YOURS but give AI credit where it’s due… on my ‘Deviant Art’ website that I’ve got… https://www.deviantart.com/mr-stickyfingers/gallery … there are various categories one of them is ‘ my AI generated images ‘… I accredit it as AI generated stuff… why hide it?… I don’t get it…

3)…the good thing about AI is the that you can ask for the most ridiculous idiotic things that you want to see… and you get it lol!… it’s pure fun… that’s what it should be used for… but as you said Isee there’s nothing better than taking photographs yourself… that’s an intimacy between you and your subject… it’s personal… it’s better… AI is cold and methodical… but still a fun frivolity… it should be treated as so… just fun…

4)…people that can’t paint or draw but have images in their heads and wish that they could create them now can… with words… AI has opened up their world now by obtaining those images merely by using words… that’s incredible to some people…

…anyway… these are just a few reasons as to why AI is a blessing as far as I’m concerned… when used in the right way… for instance… my friend is a carer… the client that she works for is a quadriplegic and has very little control of his hands… he can barely move them… I introduced my friend to AI art creation merely by using words… she was fascinated… then she introduced her client to the AI art creation program and it completely opened up his world and he now creates to his hearts content… just by unlocking things in his mind by using words… this is just one type of benefit to say the least… AI should not replace real Art from very talented people but can help non talented or impaired or even disabled people for instance… it’s changed various peoples lives for the good… sorry about this short novel Isee in saying what I think of AI lol!… but it was a great question… I meant to reply to it when you wrote it and then I got distracted and forgot to reply lol!… (oncoming senility perhaps?… lol!)… cheers.

…sadly timmy nearly everything you said is true… the bad side of AI is a very toxic thing I’m afraid… and misleading… but!… some of bleachy dude’s effervescent over abundance of enthusiasm must be rubbing off onto me because I’m only ever looking at the bright side of AI art and the benefits of it for certain people as I said in the Isee’s post above lol!… anything new nowadays is often quite quickly abused … (people putting famous movie stars faces onto a porno actresses face in a porno movie so that they can fantasise and wank off to it for instance)… it’s sick… it’s an abuse of technology sadly… AI generated art is being used and abused by sicko’s all of the time now too… what a great article too timmy… and so true… cheers.

Wow Mr Sticky thank you for this great response and for the time you took to write it. I want to acknowledge it - there is a a lot to take in and what I don't say right now I may come back to and address in time but I just wanted you to know I appreciate what you have said and it has given me food for thought and a whole different perspective/lens to think about the AI art space through, as I had not thought about it from that perspective. Thank you for sharing your deviant art page - your paintings and drawings are great too :) You have a fabulous imagination and I am glad AI has allowed you the ability to more easily have a creative outlet.

I think for me I have been stuck in a negative thought pattern re AI because of my own personal bias on how I like to edit my photos. Art is always going to be on a strange spectrum with artists drawing invisible lines of where it stops being art in their mind. Some painters say photography isn't art. Some film photographers say digital photography isn't art. Some digital photographers say you can't use photoshop. Now with AI in the mix it is where is it acceptable - if you change a sky in a landscape, or remove a person - is that ok - what about if you generate a whole new section to the photograph that you took. For me personally I tend to take photos that embrace that the world is beautiful but imperfect, so I do not try to "edit out" the flaws.

I think I will still be weary because there are a lot of people acting in bad faith, as are the software creators - I have big issues with how these AI image generators have sourced the images that they fed into them to make them in the first place. But I had not been counterbalancing the negatives with the positives it can bring. Thank you for teaching me something today :)

…Isee thankyou very much for being so kind… it’s much appreciated sweet lady… all of that is probably only about a third of what I have done in my life actually…over 30? odd years ago maybe even more… I was at work one day and I mentioned to one of my co-workers that I painted and did drawings… she asked me to bring some in and show some to them… I took them in reluctantly because my art was very personal to me and only family and personal friends or clients I did work for had ever seen them before so it was a bit daunting for me…

…when I took them in I only expected about 4-5 people to see them… word got around and during the day and about 80 out of about 500 people on the site came down to the warehouse that I worked at to see them… I was very humbled by it… in fact… I was quite stunned by it… (I kind of became a ‘celebrity’ of type because of it… a grunt in the warehouse that can paint and draw?… who woulda thunk it?… type of thing lol!)… anyway… during the day somebody asked me if I had a portfolio of all of my artwork so that they could see all of my artwork that I’ve ever done… then I realised that I should make one… that I should’ve done it a long long time ago… unfortunately for me… I never did any photos etc of my previous 75% of my work… I’d never thought of it… what an idiot… so yeah… all of that artwork is now missing… that’s why I’ve started up that Deviant Art website Isee… I so regret not doing it sooner… oh well…tough titties to me I guess?…

Some painters say photography isn't art. Some film photographers say digital photography isn't art. Some digital photographers say you can't use photoshop.

…when I first started painting when I was young… to me… Oil paintings were the ‘purist’ form of art… then there were some that said ‘Watercolour’ painting was the ‘purist’ form of art… the same for ‘Acrylics’… the same for whatever… um… how arrogant of myself and others to say that their form of art is ‘purist’?… art is an instilled love of art no matter what medium it is in… just as long as you are creating art… what does it matter?… just as long as you are doing it… what does it matter if you’re using Photoshop or bits of Ai art to create your artworks?… times are changing… learn to adapt to new forms of art and embrace them for the end result I believe… why become stagnant and stale just to remain ‘purist’?… it makes no sense… I like to keep an original copy of an image so that it is a ‘pure’ copy and I always keep a copy of it enhanced and finished at the end… why not have both copies?… a ‘before’ and ‘after’ shot of your work?…

…the exact same thing goes for Photography… how dare Painters say that Photographers aren’t artists through a lens?… that’s complete elitism!… and who are ‘purist’ Photographers to say that digital photography isn’t art?… what if in the future actual 3D photographs technology happens to come along?… are we then not to embrace it because it’s something new?… that it’s not ‘purist’?… how ridiculous is that?… it’s natural to embrace new technologies and use them as ‘extensions’ to achieve your final artwork… my dear departed dad was a professional Photographer … he embraced every bit of new forms of photography and technology… he prided himself in having the newest technology because he LOVED photography in all of it’s forms… to him there was no ‘purist’ stuff… and I have that exact attitude about all forms of art and it’s technology including Photoshop and AI art… I can’t wait to see what comes next so that I have to learn it as an even newer ‘extension’ to my art… Photography should be the same… ‘purist’ art or photography is just for people who can’t or won’t learn newer techniques in either… that’s all…

…Isee… I am so proud of you for saying just that… you shouldn’t edit out the flaws of nature… what’s wrong with flaws?… it is what it is… when I was in my twenties I used to do portraits of people or their dogs through an art gallery owned by my friend for cash… when word got around that I was doing them I had heaps of work… if they wanted their portrait done I would ask for 3 photos of themselves and do the portrait from them rather than have them sit for it… on average they use to take me about 40 hours of my time to do them… an old lady supplied the three photos of herself… I did the drawing… it took me about 40 hours as I said… I drew it as I saw it… when she got it she was so pissed off… I’d drawn all of her wrinkles and warts etc into the drawing… she actually told me off in the art-shop… so I tore up the drawing in front of her and walked out of the shop ( I’d done this exact same thing with a dog drawing of a Dalmation once before lol!… it became a trademark of mine to tear the drawing up and walk out the shop dramatically to embarrass them lol!… you know… the ‘temperamental artist’ type of dramatic artist thing lol!)… she wanted me to make her ‘younger and more beautiful’… unfortunately for her… I always stay true to the image that I see before me… (I hadn’t even drawn the hair on her chin in the photos lol!)…

…anyway… my point is Isee… nowadays the technology is accessible to even the kids to get a photo of themselves… download it onto their IPad or IPhone or whatever and then can either get rid of their pimples and blemishes or whatever or to make themselves look older for pervs on the Internet with easily accessible programs … this is technology being abused by young kids let alone adults… it’s just wrong… you keeping flaws in nature or people’s portraits is so refreshing to hear… kudos to you Isee…

…sorry yet again for this being a short novel but I hope that I explained myself well… and… if you need to ask me anything else please feel free to ask sweet lady… cheers.

Yeah I have had a drawing of me that while it looked lovely it didn't really look like me - just didn't really capture my imperfections. Maybe I am a weird female that would rather the artist did capture the imperfections lol. I also don't like photos that are too airbrushed. I actually hate having my photo taken, nor do I have any much interest in taking people photos, unless they are an incidental shape/silhouette in a scene (eg a lone figure crossing a bridge).

This is one of my photos of a dying flower - I still edit to get it how I like it, but I leave things in like the fact there is a cobweb going between two parts of the flower. I have been trying to put together a portfolio and to start a website or something. I don't like Instagram or a lot of the social media sites. But I need to get out of my comfort zone and actually show people my photos especially if I expect to sell any of my photos one day! Maybe Deviant Art is what I need to do as a stepping stone to a website. I have a few of my photos on my facebook page that a few of my friends see.

Painting with oils scare me! I have tried watercolour and I am not a natural with that medium - I need a lot more practice!! I feel most comfortable with acrylics. I used to do some art as stress relief and I have all these ideas of more art I want to however I have a very small living space at the moment that I am sharing with 4 cats so wet paint and cats is not an ideal mix. But painting I think is something I will need to work at a lot to be good at. - (Ha me having a reflecting moment after I typed this of thinking that this is a big part of my problem - thai I am a perfectionist. I can love the imperfection of the world around me but I expect everything I do to be perfect)

Maybe Deviant Art is what I need to do as a stepping stone to a website.

…that would be ideal for you Isee… photography plays a big part on that website… and… it’s totally free… you can actually sell your images on there too… (although I have never bothered)… but yes… an ideal opportunity to have a permanent record of your favourite works for all to see… I highly recommend it…

I am sharing with 4 cats so wet paint and cats is not an ideal mix.

…haha!… that is one of the funniest sentences that I’ve read for a while lol!… imagine the works of art that they might create!… or… it could become a catastrophe lol!… (sorry for the crap joke)… cheers.

…some political Ai images that created great fun for me… just adding captions is so easy… I so love Ai lol!… I tried to create an image of people refusing to shake J.D. Vance’s hand and the caption saying “NOBODY WANTED TO SHAKE J.D.’S HAND BECAUSE THE POPE DID YESTERDAY AND NOW HE’S DEAD” but no matter which Ai program I tried it on… it had no idea of who J.D. Vance was lol!… it shows just how much relevance J.D. is to this world when even Ai and computers can’t acknowledge him doesn’t it?… lol!… cheers.
