Big Brother 2005 on official YouTube channel (Live streamed Sept 12-14 + Sept 19-21)

Completely forgot that some people ran on stage right before the winner announcement.
I’d forgotten about that one too. It happened so many times over the years - 2001 and 2006 also come to mind (I think Sharna and David’s evictions respectively, if my memory serves me well).

I swear BBAU is like the sole reason they stopped doing live television in Australia, lol.
Yep it was David's in 06. He was in complete shock
Was there ever a streaker? Or am I completely making that one up?

EDIT: Yep, there was. In 2002. Another to add to the list, haha

Vesna couldn’t watch the live stream of the finale. Her anxiety was too much. This is also the night she said she has some spicy gossip to tell us? Anyone think something sinister happened at the after party?
My two cents - I felt like that had a lot more to do with re-living that period of her life too much over the last couple weeks with these streams. She divulged she’s not in a great place mentally, and also disclosed some dissatisfaction with the end result. She spoke quite a bit about how David and his family allegedly set up the voting farm for Greg, as we all know (and I suspected this was actually the “spicy gossip” she referred to, because she said David mentioned it at the after party… I could be wrong though).

Not to make any assumptions, but I’d say the Finale especially would be triggering for her - we all re-witnessed the reception Vesna got by the live audiences at not only her eviction but it trumped every other HM at the Finale. Also those that remember the hype for her at the time, it was a big surprise that she left when she did. She was basically robbed of the win in a way, and maybe she couldn’t bring herself to watch it play out again?

Just a hunch.

Seems that way, I guess it was too triggering for her. I don't suppose there were any rules against vote stacking like that, but I'd be sure Legion Interactive would have had the records and know if tens of thousands of votes were originating from just a few numbers.

I think I need make a minor amendment to something said above: she was basically robbed of making the final two, not necessarily (just) the win. If anything, she rightfully should’ve at least got that far based on the circumstances.

I had no idea untill I read that in the live streams his family did that. Fancy David saying that at the afterparty as well. Bit unfair, but I suppose not illegal. Maybe ethically and morally not right.

Watching it back, it was actually weirdly underlying in both David and his sisters’/family’s interviews with Gretel. They all made a couple odd comments and had an unusual over-confidence about Greg winning that night. Perhaps that’s just how his family is, but it did seem a bit…too sure about what the result would be.

Oh well.

I think this marathon is proof that 100 day seasons weren’t necessary even back in the show’s heyday. The last 2 weeks have consisted of so much filler.
Knock off a couple of weeks then, not 10! I think the 6 week BBUK seasons have shown that 8-10 weeks would be the happy medium.

The news recaps is hands down one of the best ideas introduced by Aussie BB. Glad it became a mainstay from 2005 through 2014. Really hope they continue the tradition - it’s a beautiful little time capsule, even to rewatch decades later.
Absolutely - a brilliant idea executed well and really emphasises the "cut of from the outside world" concept. It's surprising more versions didn't pick up the idea.
Actually, I’ll go as far as saying the production of the BBAU Finales was easily the best in the world. As far as I’m aware no other country has done the finales like we have been accustomed to. Some might consider them over bloated and a lot of the recaps and interviews unnecessary, but for a show like Big Brother (particularly after the investment that gripped Australia during these early years) was a wonderful little conclusion and reunion of the whole “journey” and best moments from that year.
Yes - a final should be an event not just a series of back to back evictions. Yes, there was some stuff that could be trimmed but on the whole they worked brilliantly, and also think having the Sunday/Monday scheduling with the final eviction too worked well.

Back in the days when streakers were actually streakers rather than just running across the pitch wearing an outfit to promote a betting or porn company.

Already cringing at flashbacks of the homophobic, sexist and racist commentary from Mike and Fitzy, especially in 2006 and 2007.

It’s absolutely a product of its time. I don’t insinuate that the hosts, or the production, hold those views today. But, just like a lot of the language used during the 2001-2004 seasons (and in many other shows of that era, the 90s and prior), it’s still very difficult to watch back in today’s world.
Any specific lines/remarks?

I'm gay btw and I don't mind some gay jokes (though it depends).

Basically any FNL episode that features David in 2006, Zach in 2007 and Travis in 2008 come to mind for the gay “jokes”. I can’t recall verbatim lines but it’s the typical stuff that was “okay” to say back then. Things that absolutely wouldn’t fly today.

I put that word in quotations because it still wasn’t okay, but it was a lot more widely accepted.

I wonder how much the loan was and if they just saved this for the final week,l (I already have forgotten other times he was nominated), I imagine spread evenly out both nights. Statistically they would have good chances but jeez you’d want to make sure you had done the sums.

Kind of funny in a way, presumably the Chaser guys were trying to organise their own voting system as well but without relying on a loan, but Greg’s family would have had no idea they were up against “media” people. Would have been hilarious if ABC had usurped the Logans.

But someone like Vesna with a huge fan base just didn’t stand a chance.

The Logans were not ever up on eviction night until week 11 (the twin eviction and double eviction week). Greg (David too by extension I guess) actually holds the Australian Big Brother record for longest time gone until officially being nominated (72 days) Stacey from 2012 is 2nd with 71 days.

Excluding the final evictions, Greg was only ever up in the double and the final 4 so thats only two rounds and honestly it was lucky for the family that he was against two very clear targets to be evicted in Kate and Mel. So the family probably saved it for that final round where it is alleged that Greg was in the lead until the last few hours where suddenly thousands of votes to evict Vesna came in.

Ah yep this makes sense. I guess it wouldn’t be sustainable to take this path for someone who was up for eviction a lot and you would only consider it so close to the final, and yep definitely suss for all the Vesna votes. They must have voted a lot to kick Vesna out when maybe they could have voted less for Tim but I suppose he would be seen as less of a threat to make the finale voting easier to manage anyway.

I do wonder if David knew about Tim’s ties to the Chaser, another major advantage if so as this could have facilitated the idea amongst the Logan family.

I noticed that Gretel seemed less frustrated in S5 than she was in the previous season. Whoever was directing the live shows must have stepped it up this time around.

I don't think that info came out until well after the season concluded.

Yeah I wasn’t sure, definitely not publicly but I wonder if Tim ever mentioned it in the house but I’m guessing not since people would have seen it on live feeds.

No one knew until this interview in 2011:

It's very good, and very interesting. He goes into detail about it in the above clip. All the HMs here are visibly surprised by the admission.
