BBAU Rewatch

Watching showdown is so sad when coming off of Friday Night Live. It's just, not even comparable. Why did they have to cut down the arena? There was a whole area for them ready to use, why not use it? I remember visiting the house in December 2013 and seeing the FNL closed off in the camera runs. The whole arena was still there intact, I don't get why it wasn't used. Having it switch to Thursdays was less eventful than having it occur at the end of the week, it more so just takes on the Power of Veto role like in the US. Mike Goldman also commentating through the daily show as if he is on the panel live just feels weird.

Big Brother Showdown must have rated pretty bad to be dropped. It aired on Saturday nights for the first few weeks of the season. And if I recall correctly it was all pre-recorded from the previous day. And for some reason Shelley Craft was hosting it even though she was hardly used in the show.

I remember that in the 9 era well at least for 2012 and 2013 the show was scheduled for a number of hours every week. With them incorporating Showdown into the daily show there was 40/50 mins free and I believe that is when we got about 5 or 6 weeks of Late Night Feast. So axing the Showdown edition actually let us finally get some Adult content.

I have such fond memories of watching the 2013 season. I loved watching Tim and the majority of the cast were very interesting. It sucked we didn’t have a Sunday show but it was cool to get a late Adult companion show and it kind of felt like the old days with Big Brother dominating the TV schedule. (Which I loved during the original run when I could consume my life with BB in real time).

The next year 2014 was soooooo bad though. I cringe when I think of that season. I guess it really couldn’t compete after Tim’s season. How could you follow that?

I think showdown was always scheduled to only run for a few weeks. From memory it was intended to run for 4 episodes but ended up only having 3. I don't get why Shelley was by herself hosting from the stage and then Mike and Michael were separated from her with constant crossing back and forth. The whole thing was just awkward.

It's really weird watching this as well knowing the drama that unfolds between Mikkayla and Tahan, and also watching them share a bed in the early weeks. That is so strange to me.

I know some of you hated Ben talking to his Mum and Grandma’s photos but the scene at 1:04:18 gave me a big laugh with Ben showing the photos around the new bedroom after the Halfway House twist ended. “Doesn’t that chair remind you of the coffee table that grandma got for you for our house warming” 😂

I find it endearing.

One of my family friends used to say she thought it was unfair that Big Brother let him talk to the photos as she felt it counted as contact with the outside world.

It was designed to fail as they only scheduled it for the first few weeks. It was never meant to continue as a stand alone show.

I find just reading you talking about it vomit inducing.

I did find the era that drew said he saw himself coming from interesting. That is around my era. When I saw him on the promo the other day, he so reminded me of the teenage boys from my grungy 90's days - especially the ones who knew that they were cute but were just a but sick of the attention so deliberately looking grungier - or maybe to attract attention from someone that will try to change him? (past history has shown he seems to like the high drama relationships like that)
I got Jordan Catalano vibes from him (My So-Called Life).

Shelley was cross-promotion for The Block (another reality revival that had a gap between reboots, like 2003/04 and then it came back in like 2010 or 11 IIRC).

I also remember during 2013 Channel 9's version of the 'Rove Post eviction interview' was the latest evictee doing a kinda HHIS Plucka Duck style Water/Foam inflatable castle slide to win a prize for a home viewer outside at the end of The NRL Footy Show on Thursday Nights. I would catch up on my Uni work whilst watching BB and have The Footy Show on afterward.

I found my FB post about the Boys Vs. Girls group song task the other day too - it was 'Mandate' vs. Hotpantz' or something. Haha.

They should've all went on The ARIA's that year, (held on 1st December) LOL.

I found a couple uploads of the NRL Footy Show 'Crack A Fatty' segment (Caleb, Matthew, Heidi) Also AFL one had a 'Big Bill's House skit'

Id largely have no problem. Except one gigantic hurdle. Suffering the utter tripe and banality of the other housemates "carefully chosen" and screened by a bunch of amateur behind the scenes casting agents. The ones that think american type modelled character assessments tasks and tests in auditions have any remote bearing as to a persons actual character.
And I tend to bristle quite badly to rampant self-indulgence and egotism.
Tho, If I was promised an on demand supply of stimulants coming in as an intruder......welll...I may reconsider as these healing agents would dull the needle sharp boredom ache of living with helium balloons.
