jessy_girl's junk food jamboree

Seven days? Whoa. I love pizza but i am not sure i could handle eating it for a week. Well done.

Yes I feel pretty accomplished. You see, what happened is my nonno gave all these uncooked bases and I put them in the freezer but i decided it's been too long and they will start to get freezer burn so why not just eat them all and make at least one pizza a day.

Very smart.

I have just scoffed a huge home-made burger - and is it still junk?
Not really, when it has every food group and no added fat or sugar?
Mine had, lean heart smart mince made into burger patties, cooked on the barbie, lettuce, tomato, pineapple, bacon, egg, caramelised onion, cheese, sauce, mustard. Huge. Yummy.

@jessy_girl lucky you having a nonno, and such a productive one.

I have always admired how the Italians made such a worldwide huge food trade with what is essentially cheese on toast.

I generally dislike most pizza, except real Italian restaurant ones, and now Lucky Qoc $4 pizzas in Chapel st
This place is a bit legendary, and I finally had yummy crispy pizza there, so fresh and so good and so cheap.
If you are ever in that area and need food, awesome place with big comfy lounge chairs.

Yeah I tend to figure home made stuff is much less junky. This certainly helped me justify my week of pizza, I knew exactly what went into it and how much etc, well except for the bases. Mind you most of mine were laden with processed meats and cheese.

Yep the Italians are awesome! I think most people tend to forget that pizza and pasta dishes are a foreign food as they are embedded so much in every day food culture. My nonna is also very productive with food, I can't imagine not being from a family where food is the centre of everything. Not sure how I slipped through the cracks to like so much junk though!

I've just bought a pizza oven thing that sits on top of bbq ... so hoping post Christmas we'll be able to produce some great homemade pizzas :)

JG - is there a special secret recipe to your nonna's bases? or is pizza base just pizza base no matter who makes it?

I'll find out, I've never actually asked but there's probably no secret. Mind you, I'm still not privy to a very basic passata recipe so I may get excluded again.

Where on Chapel St? The only one I know is Topelz now that Red Pepper has gone. LOVE Sam Pang.

That used to be a bit dingy back in the day. I'm more the Commercial to Richmond direction and that's more often than not in the car.

It is very groovy inside and very cheery service
I hang out the grunge Windsor end, my GP is there, and the best op shops strip, and lots of food.
Love Prahran market:)
And the Astro Boy shop. Lots of quirky stuff I like

I rarely make it to the posh end, since they closed that beautiful bookstore.
But every time I venture down the Sth Yarra end I usually find a bargain - shops close down so often & chuck everything out whilst going bankrupt:)

I worked in Chapel St, St Kilda for ages - historian gave our organisation some great info, eg called Chapel St as it used to be lined with all of the different church chapels, and welfare help, before there was centrelink.

From Brighton Rd to Victoria St, it's filled with all sorts of great stuff. I work at the Alfred and live in Richmond so go to work that way most of the time for most shifts. Yes, closing Borders was horrible. I love bookshops and libraries.

Someone (my mum?) told me it is divided by denomination, Protestant church street north of the river, catholic chapel street south of the river.

Never knew that but the big RC church is on the top of the hill north of the river.
