Words/things I learned watching BBAU from the US

You left out Denver! I visited there this year, was amazing...

Some posters are getting a little touchy, everyone needs to remember it's a joke... We don't really think everywhere is Sydney, nor do we expect you to know our states. Just a bit of humor folks!

I thought the joke map of the US was hilarious. I was actually impressed that he knew several states. I'd guess that a majority of Americans couldn't even name a single Canadian province on a map, and they are our neighbor!

kxk You have excellent vacation ideas :-)

Of the US accents I love New Orleans the most! Especially the men.

So bummed out they don't put Gambit in the X-men movies.

Oh yes please, I would love some southern gentleman charm lavished on me

Some of us here follow your elections, with those maps that make it so neat.
I have a rough idea where most places are, but we all get lost in the middle and amongst the smaller eastern states

Lol not going to lie, unless it's a puzzle I would have a hard time with some of the tiny Eastern states as well, Vermont, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, NJ. Those little states you can drive in and out of in an hour are really pretty overkill.

Just randomly, has anyone seen this ad?

What's a Melburnite? I don't think there's such at thing.

People from Melbourne call ourselves Melburnians but I don't ever recall hearing Melburnites once in my life. lol

And to be honest that US map has more detail than I ever hope or care to know about the States. No offence but I have little interest in the US beyond LA and NY. And I think that applies to most non-Yanks, that is the US to most outsiders in a nutshell. The country is just too large to develop any meaningful knowledge besides those two powerful world cities.

Actually I am quite intrigued by US and would love to visit one day and do a road trip. I always thought the US was so much bigger, (my excuse is that I am a blond and I'm sticking to it...:D ) than Australia so it is quite doable.

You know what? I live in Melbourne too and I hear both....I was going to use Melbournian , maybe I shoul've used both?

I just googled it, and it said both are considered ok by Melbourne dwelling folk......I'm just glad I'm not a Sybneysider. lol

Yes, ours is called Soda Stream so it must have started in Australia and just hit American last year. Of course it's possible it was available in other parts of the country before we got it in Texas, but the television commercials just started advertising it last year. You don't see the commercials for it anymore, so perhaps it didn't achieve the popularity hoped for.

Dr. Pepper tastes nothing like licorice so it couldn't be similar to sarsaparilla. That's an old fashioned drink that you only hear about in old westerns. (cowboy movies) Root beer is quite popular and has been since the 50's.

I don't know what ginger beer tastes like (probably not like our semi-sweet soft drink Ginger Ale) but root beer is not served in bars. (pubs) It's a soft drink like Coke, Pepsi, 7 Up, etc. purchased in grocery stores. Club Soda is not a soft drink. It's an unsweet sparkling mineral water used in bars to mix with alcohol. People rarely drink it as is.

I drink gin & tonic - best with very good gin like Bombay Sapphire & a good brand of Tonic Water (carbonated quinine flavor used as a mixer in bars.)

Bombay Sapphire is the ONLY Gin worth drinking! J'adore! Bombay G & T's for everyone! Cheers! "Here's lookin' up yer old address!"

Oh - and KIRKS make Sars ( not the virus) Sarsparilla is still sold in Supermarkets here....It's yummy, but Creaming Soda is better!

The people that make ginger beer also make sarsaparilla!! >.< They look similar so choose careful before deciding... found I hate sarsaparilla

I was in New Orleans about 2 years ago, walking down the street, and a youngish man yelled at me, "BITCH!" I thought, either this guy is really psychic, or he's got Tourette's Syndrome. That's my memory of Southern gentleman charm.

In one of the recent live feeds (http://youtu.be/qR4MRYEgf5c), Boog says "Shall we sit down and have a fruf?" What in the world is a fruf(sp)? I tried to Google and couldn't find anything.

Boogs does pronounce 'th' sound leaning towards an 'f' in that clip, a tendency found in people with an Ocker accent. But I wouldn't confuse the 'u' in cut, hut, nut etc.. with the the 'o' in pot, cot, lot, etc... They are very distinct sounds and in that video Boogs clearly enunciates the word as 'FROF/FROTH'.

We say 'let's have a frothy/frothies' in Victoria not just froth though.

Just wondering.....does Australia have the terrorism problem that we do in the US? I mean this as domestic and foreign terrorism. We had a shooting at LAX (LA airport) today and I'm sure as shit sick of this garbage. You guys aren't big on guns their are you?

Yeah, since I was small I could draw the OZ map shape freehand seeing animal heads - but mine was WA/left is a scotty terrier dog profile; East/right is a Kangaroo.
That cat food Tassie is hilarious.
