In my opinion (just an opinion) Tully's whole outlook comes from being emotionally needy.
1. She thinks about what makes her feel better. Is tactile and wants affection because it makes her feel better. She doesn't consider the bigger picture and how if might affect other people. She just needs it, and anyone who can't understand that doesn't love her.
2. She thinks she loves people more than they love her because she always will need more than they can give. The moment they're out of her sight or touch she isn't reassured that they still love her and she needs that reassurance.
3. In an argument any difference of point of view is seen as a personal betrayal. She takes as an affront someone disagreeing and will interrupt them, call them out for yelling when they aren't. She has been betrayed.
4. She says she is empathetic, and does care about others, but cares more about how their feelings are impacting on her, and will give examples of things that have happened to HER in the past as a reference for understanding.
I think that Tully is book-smart but selfish in that consideration for the bigger impact her actions cause. Even in conversations about wanting to be married by 30, she's talking about finding someone to marry her, she probably never even thought 'wow, I'm with someone so how does that make them feel?'.
I think that having a mother who is unaware of her and who has forgotten about her definitely has impacted on Tully not wanting to be forgotten by anyone again.
In any case, I do think she has issues and I personally find her quite draining to watch.
I have been trying to say this, but not as eloquently as you have, of course. I stopped believing she was a mental person from the late night feasts when she was well aware of what she was doing and saw her capabilities to try and fool,us and the housemates and the bb team.
