It's going to be their loss in the end. By putting himself up of his own volition last week, he's declared to them that he just doesn't care and that their votes will do nothing. They should have just heeded his advice, and let him assume that power. Now that they are making him a target and going against his power, they make themselves more vulnerable and just give him even more power. Part of Tim's reason for putting himself up last week was to test his power outside the house. He's already done enough to get the public on his side and he knows it. If the other housemates throw away their votes on him and start to target him, they give him even more power - the people he nominates are even more likely to go up and the public support he's built up is likely to get even more passionate.
