Male Winner Guaranteed?

It's still early days in the BB house, but from pure observation it definitely seems like the male housemates dominate in popularity compared to the females. Is this really a new trend, though? Is it just constant poor casting of females housemates or do we as a society just have automatic preferences towards males?

Only female I can see getting into the final 3 is perhaps Tahan?

Think its just poor casting this year. They're either boring (Jas, Shazz) or annoying as hell this year (Tully, Mikkayla, twins)

Yes, a male winner is guaranteed - thankfully! :D Cannot wait because my entire Love list are all males! :D

There's definitely a patriarchial factor (perhaps inevitable in a show called Big Brother) but yes the casting has let the female side down again.

There is no alpha female as the role keeps shifting hands and, in many cases, the girls simply don't want the title.

In answer to your second question - no, Australia has had numerous female winners so it's got nothing to do with our culture, it's simply that this year the girls are just complete and utter drecks - also, the girls fight with each other, the guys don't this year. I would love it in all honesty if all the girls go week after week and it's a male only house for 4-5 weeks! That would be fantastic because it's the first time that's EVER happened in Australia!

I think it's that mainly young girls and horny bored housewives that vote.

I bet it's the bored house wives who are more into just voting to see abs on tv than the younger ones. They'll go more for the 'cool' guy or something.

Then there's the losers who vote for people like ben.

I think that people forgive flaws in males more easily than they do females.

Out of this year's bunch of females, the two sisters are the most inoffensive and "sweet". For female characters, it's the "sweet" and "ditzy" character archetype that the general public seems to warm to most easily. Generally, I feel that we're more likely to hold a woman's negative character traits more strongly against her than we would do with a man. The good thing about a vote to save is that women who provoke a reaction have a better chance of breaking the mould and surviving against these character types.

If there was to be a female winner, Katie and Lucy are likely. They have that "Aleisha" factor. I don't think they will get there in the end though - we're most likely getting another male winner.

I do find it very interesting that Ben won last year and nobody can deny he was quite catty and bitchy yet when girls do it they are immediately to be tossed aside and branded a huge bitch that needs to be rushed out the door asap. If Ben was a woman he would have gone a lot sooner.

Not knocking Ben as much as just marvelling at how people let guys get away with bad behavior opposed to girls.

BS. Ben's a gay dude, if anything the fact that bitchiness is cool and accepted because of this is even worse than being judged normally for it.

I think what separated him from the girls is that he also showed he was able to laugh and have a good time. Or he just got a good edit from
the producers who wanted to have an Ausssie Jack style character (Will & Grace) and they were more willing to show both sides of him than they were to show the others.

Very well said.

ugh, the barbie sisters are NOTHING like Aleisha, she had a brain. Twin-like HMs are often a disappointment and I'm sorry to see the Australian version put some in. They just keep to each other instead of us seeing individual personalities and have an unfair advantage in supporting each other.

On Big Brother young women are often far more entertaining than young men who often have very little to say and so are largely there for showmances.

The problem seems to be the audience they are aiming for now, which seems to be young girls judging by the screams at live shows.

That's exactly right.
It's such a shame because all the women on this series would be deserved winners, they have contributed to entertainment but the guys....I'd prefer Ben or Tim to win.
What have the others done?

I think drew will probably win. I'm ok with that cause he's quite genuine but he's not exactly exciting to watch.

I actually found it very upsetting that someone of his character was rewarded for the behaviour he showed. Doesn't inspire people in Australia to be nice to one another if they see that being mean and bitchy will get you to the top

I only just recovered from that shock and now you remind me... cruel world.

The producers shouldn't have cast the three meatheads for starters. The above mentioned horny bored housewives and the brainwashed little girls will want them to be in the House for as long as possible. Ergo, they'll keep saving them while the braindead meatheads create havoc with their asinine nominations. Perfectly good HMs are lost this way early in the proceedings while we are forced to watch two adults pulling on a rope.

Out of the three female HMs whom I have liked from the beginning and still do, none has a chance. Jade is too "flirty", Mikkayla is too "bossy" and Tahan is too "bitchy" or so I'm told.

The Barbies could go quite far considering our infatuation with everything odd and freakish. But in the end the nation will tire of them and they'll be losing out to the boys. The same pretty much applies to Tully. Heidi will probably go the next time she's up.

The rest is already history. I could cry.

You could probably change the title to 'Meathead Winner Guaranteed' :(

If the noms keep up like this (all girls bar one) then the show will be a pile of crud in a very short time
