I need a time machine to take me back to the 70s, so I can beat my son. He took the bloody tablet to school after being told not to.
I have to decide if 2 weeks or 1 month of not touching it is fair punishment. What would be fair?

Two weeks. But have him on good behaviour probation too, so any bad behaviour or general unhelpfulness adds a day (or more depending on the crime).

I hate that smell, try not to have a stroke, Dawson would look really demented with a stroke, so don't do that......

Bahah Dawson stroking... wait that sounds even worse! But that would be hilarious!!

I agree, 2 weeks, tell him you will return it if it happens again! You have to update us!!

2 weeks it is, I'm thinking I might buy him a phone instead...

Background yesterday was his birthday, he wanted a phone, I surprised him with a tablet.

Was he super surprised??

Also why are "casual" fridays never actually casual?

Unless the tab was an E, I would say one week would suffice.

Changed my mind.

Given that it was his birthday present and over excitement clouded his better judgement, I would give him a warning on this one, accompanied with a letter of apology to you, explaining why he should not have taken it to school. However definite two weeks if he does it again.

I have cleaned my house from top to bottom, clean sheets on the bed and now it is off to the gym and then meeting a girlfriend for lunch.

Have a super day Cheeky Monkeys!

Absolutely, it was awesome.....I'm just disappointed it took less than 24 hours to break the rules that went along with it...

He is going to be even more surprised when I confiscate it though, I can go to the school and get it after 11 or wait till he gets home.

Are your Friday arvos cruisy at lease?

The road to finding that love is never easy. I beat your 14 years by a long time. It is up to the individual....but when I look around I see love is not easy and is something to work on forever as you and circumstances change. The adding of children, parents ...all sorts.

So bollocks to you too............did I tell you I won 5 and a half grand yesterday trala and going to pick the cheque up soon ?:)

Yes, I've been with the same guy for over 35 years...and at times we still work on our relationship. Some days I could kill him and other days he makes me melt because I just love him so fucking much.

Congratulations on winning 5k...hope you treat yourself to something really nice.

See I feel the road to loving yourself, is far more important than the road to finding love.

After 5 years completely on my own and focused on raising my son, I learned to really like me. After I met my partner Kai, people would often say how lucky I was. But I don't consider myself lucky, because I wouldn't have settled for anything less.

Congratulations on the 5k!

Are you a gambler or is it a one off win?

Yep, you've got to love yourself first. You can't have a relationship with doubt and self-loathing...too much baggage.

I don't think I would confiscate it...given that it was a birthday present and the excitement probably got to him. I would ask him why he took it to school when you expressly told him not to...sometimes just reflecting on what they have done and realising it was wrong and that you are a bit disppointed with him (without playing the guilt card) is all it takes.

I wouldn't confiscate it as it's a birthday present. One and only warning I think, but you should load him up with extra chores this evening to make up for it.

All advice has been heeded.
I'm just disappointed in a big way. For me to have even gotten him a tablet is huge deal. I really don't want any of my sons to end up the types locked In their rooms batting of to warcraft characters. So they have never had free reign with the net or gaming, always measured and supervised doses. I know most of you wouldn't agree, but I'm of the nintendo generation and had the net as a teen. I understand the addictive nature and dangers of Willy Nilly tech. I myself don't have Facebook or twitter as an example. (surprisingly doesn't interfere with social stuff). The kids have been told that while they are under18 and living under my roof i/we have the right to know what data is being uploaded and downloaded on any future gadgets. Some parents think it's like a personal.diary and should be private. I think it's more akin to leaving your front door open with the kids home alone.

So yeah I'm dealing with that aspect, more than the material worth of the object.
And the fact he was dumb enough to think I was dumb enough not to find out.

I completely see your point! Maybe a sit down and explain why you are disappointed and a stern warning, I always remember as a kid it was far worse when mum said it disappointing than being completely told off, always hit me much harder :)

Hey! I played playstation every day and had unlimited access to the net all through my childhood. I turned out just f... oh yeah... good point.
