The appeal of Estelle?

sinkingfeeling

I think I'm putting this on the right board, as I'm asking for opinions and not just trashing her: I just really do not understand how Estelle is so popular, and how she has survived so many evictions. I see her as boring and mopey and feel that she acts like a teenage girl rather than a 23/24/whateverthefuck-year-old.

(plus, she isn't even attractive although everyone in the house and out of the house sees to think she is).

So I know there are a lot of you here on "Team Estelle", so I ask you: Why do you like her so much? Why do you want her to be the winner?

I think the initial support was due to an interest with her and bradley or her and Ryan.

Then I think the beginning of mass support for her was when she had the breakdown with Ava alongside her, and confrontation with Ben, etc. People just saw as being harshly treated in there and wanted to support her (therefore vote her) to shove it up the 'cool group'.

Then there was a noticing that while others may speak meanly or rudely of her, she isn't doing it to anyone else in there. So she was good for that, and she seemed the most genuine and honest in there.

Personally I find a lot of the times when she's doing her own thing (like baby duck singing or riding on ponies, etc) to be cute as well.

I can't speak of recent times though as I'm just not fond of this michael and estelle union, pairing, whatever you want to call it. Michael treated her very badly (and how now done a mass turnaround), and I just preferred her antics with ryan, angie and bradley.

Because the others suck balls 100% more than Estelle could ever possibly suck balls (and she could probably suck a lot of balls).

Buggered if I know.
No personality whatsoever and certainly not very interesting. She appears to lack depth and is one dimensional -all her "characters" are just shallow caricatures.

Yeah, I agree she is reasonable looking but nothing special, with a good bod but her mouth is ugly and spoils her looks somewhat.

All I can put it down to is that ppl feel sorry for her cause she's been given a hard time in the house up till recently.
Perhaps she is the token champion for all those viewers out there who have been bullied in their lives?
They can identify with the ostracised underdog...

Exactly. The other housemates are fucking horrible (not necessarily as people because I see good in all of them, but so much of their behaviour is just terrible). Estelle is very mature for someone her age in the way she responds to criticism and negative attention. She does her best to treat other people with kindness regardless of how they treat her. I admire her for how much self control she has.

I was once like you, OP; I thought she was a bit of a bore and a sourpuss at the start, but in the weeks that followed, she slowly unravelled and showed me that she was a kind, decent, interesting and mature human being. I don't make apologies for people who can't see it. You either see it or you don't. She's got incredible self control both mentally and physically and she has handled herself better than I could have under the same circumstances; I admire her for that. I see the prize money as a reward and compared to the other house mates, she's the only person I would feel comfortable having their behaviour rewarded (I'd also be happy to see Sam or Layla win; Sam is a nice guy, but he hasn't generated enough story lines or demonstrated much strength of character to warrant the win and Layla is a bit of a pushover - she isn't very consistent and seems to just sit back idly by to let the hivemind dictate everything. She seems to lack the will to speak her own mind, but she's overall a good person despite this).

I've also found her quite entertaining, particularly in recent weeks, but I don't expect anybody to see it like I do; we're all different people with different perceptions, so there's no point arguing to convince anyone otherwise. Loud, obnoxious behaviour does not always equate to an interesting character or entertainment anyway; I think that Estelle has a depth of character that she keeps hidden to people that don't know her under the superficial "skater girl hippie" veneer, which would make her a very fascinating person to get to know.

And I think she is attractive. Don't be a Zoe and try to deny that, because she is. I don't understand the argument that "She's not special, she's got nothing on *insert ridiculously attractive celebrity here*. Why do people find her attractive?" like that somehow makes her any less attractive just because there are plenty of girls who are just as attractive as her. She's nice looking, she takes care of her body and she's got a pretty attractive personality too. She's an attractive person to many people, whether you see it or not.

That's why I like her and would be satisfied to see her win. It doesn't really matter who wins though, because these housemates will all be erased from our memories by the time this week is up.

I'm not an Estelle fan, I find her boring as bat shit but I think you've totally summed up the progression of her popularity, Poona.

I don't get it either. The whole kooky thing is clearly an act.
I think she appeals to the try hard/outcast youth.

She's the hottest girl in the house, IMO. Angie and Layla have pretty faces, but Estelle's the only all-rounder. Imagine watching BB every night without any certified female eye candy.

Plus, she's totally kind and she's a unique character. I've personally never seen any gangsta chicks like her before, so it's been interesting.

Absolutely - and the guises she puts on whether its the lakers gear, or the sticks of grass in the hair counts as some kind of individualism?

I think it's because she doesn't worry too much about what other people think of her when it really comes down to it. I am not saying she's not interested in what they think, it just doesn't effect her behaviour as she is comfortable enough in her own skin to march to the beat of her own drum.

Ben is 100% wrong about her, she is more mature than her years and knows who she is more than any other person in the house (a lot of the other hms are borderline basketcases, Ben included).

Estelle is intelligent, resilient, independent and is not insecure in any way. This is what makes her a very strong, unwaivering character. What they don't get is how she doesn't continually need their support and reassurance all the time (like Zoe, etc craves and Ben believes is his right to give and hates anyone that does not receive it with thanks).

A guy that is intelligent, secure, etc is attracted to girls like this and vice-versa. Other girls who are weaker, insecure etc are threatened by this. When a guy is like this he is admired by other males ..... yes, it's such a double standard.

I am a girl and in no way threatened by Estelle. I just don't find her all that entertaining. I am indifferent towards her. To me her appearance is irrelevant. If I met her on the street prior to BB and had a chat I would most likely walk away thinking,"Seems nice enough" but is "nice enough" a good enough reason to win BB? I do agree she is independant and resilient and maybe other HMs cannot understand her strength given the constant bitching about her and surviving evictions etc. I have just found others far more entertaining and it is simple as that as to why I would prefer someone else to win.

I think beauty is certainly subjective and I can wholly see why people find her very attractive but I think she looks rather 'insane' facially and physically just a normal young fit figure, nothing out of the ordinary. Really her personality is far more attractive in my opinion.

Her face is too thin, her mouth is tiny and her teeth are huge and she has an ugly nose. Sorry, I just don't see it.
