Michael and his antics

A few points-

The KFC was for all the HMs ... not just Michael.

A high (or reasonably high) IQ doesn't equal all-round smarts. I have a reasonably high IQ, but I can be as dumb as a box of rocks when it comes to some things (chess being one of them).

He didn't say that he wouldn't marry a woman who wants a ring. He said he wouldn't marry a woman who wants a big sparkly diamond engagement ring, because he feels too many people concentrate on the big expensive bling (and the status that goes with it) when they should be concentrating more on being the best husband or wife they can be. His views on a wedding are very similar to mine. My engagement ring was $350 (cheap for an engagement ring) and hubby and I got married at the court house and then just had a party with friends. Too many people focus on the one day, the wedding, and not enough on the thirty or forty years following it.

Spot on.
I sometimes wonder if the BB I'm watching is the same as some people here are watching.
This endless talk that Michael is no genius because he can't do or know this and then in the next breathe the talk is that he is some master manipulator that has the HM's and BB in his thrall and that they are all dancing to his tune and that Estelle is his nemesis, the only one to withstand Michael and all his machinations - which if Michael was actually doing would in my books make him a genius, maybe even a evil genius - wonder if a home he has a sphynx cat?
Think some people really need to get a grip.

Intelligence is relative. It's a pecking order and I think that Michael definitely has an edge over the other housemates in terms of "CPU" power in the brain but he is not a polymath and has vast holes in his knowledge. He is so far below anyone I consider intelligent that I simply cannot appreciate some things people see in him.

It's like looking at a table.

I will see the top of the table whereas most people are seeing the chewing gum stuck on the bottom of it.

It seems to me that Michael has come from a family that has only recently broken out of its bogan past. Michael's dad was probably a solid middle class person working as an accountant or midmlevel public servant trying to elevate his families status.

Michael is a throwback.

Michael's tattoos are a vestige of that. In fact the instant I saw the tattoos I questioned any intelligence Michael claimed. It may represent a time in his life he thought he was rebellious etc but it shows a half hearted attempt. He stopped before it became his identity. The hair is another example. He probably lives inner city and has a loose association with some "Bohemian" style artistic people who he wants to appear in touch with but it's fake.

He's desperately trying to be something he isn't. He should have become the engineer he might have thought about at some point.

Like anyone flawed in his own unique ways.

Well I think tattoos should be a very personal thing. There is nothing lamer than somebody just walking into a tattoo shop and going "I'll have that one" as they point at any generic tattoo on display.

I think Michael chose his tattoos out of his own sense of humour or little things that are significant to him. And I can appreciate that. I have one sole tattoo, which I designed (because it meant something to me) and it's in a place where nobody would ever really see it in my day to day life ... because I got it for ME, not for everybody else.

And the hair I think is a bit of an inferiority thing. I don't think Michael sees himself as being particulary attractive, and I think he feels even less attractive when he has short hair.

The tattoos... and I haven't seen what they are to be honest... Except that they look upside down so that Michael sees them right way up when he sits down. Not sure though. They're not big, exciting or instantly meaningful. They're in hidden spots that also says a lot about Michael.

As in he hides things about himself. They are not bold statement tattoos but rather ones that irl only those very close to him would see. And those people wouldn't need to see them to understand what the tattoos show about him. They're redundant in that sense. Meaningless even.

The hair is also a hiding mechanism.

During the George nomination Michael completely draped the hair over his face covering his emotions up.

I'm beginning to think he's just in the closet. He needs to come out bad.

Alien-She, you do think highly of yourself, don't you? You just slipped in the info about your IQ being higher than Michael's in your example that being good at chess does not equate to a high IQ. I've read some of your posts love, and as much as you want to be, you're no Germaine Greer.

Lol. I wondered whether anyone would ever comment on that.

alien-she is so playing the game here ;)

Who would WANT to be Germaine Greer?

And I don't think Alien-She was trying to big note herself. I think she was just making the point that having a high (or reasonably high) IQ does not necessarily mean a person will be good at chess. I said a similar thing in my post

This is what I said about myself -

Well, I think Alien She was trying to bignote herself. You just don't casually mention that you have a higher IQ than someone else if you don't want to draw attention to the fact. As for Germaine Greer, she is a feminist icon. Have you never read any of her works? I admit that she has lost the plot a bit thesedays, though.

Hope that ugly looking, bad teeth asshole leaves Sunday.... but I doubt it You so sound like me..I want the ugly childish 26 yr old out of there and let the young ones have some fun without his manipulating ways. Frankly am throwing a few votes Sam's way this week as he to me is genuine and at least does more than just lay around trashing the other housemates. C,mon Australia don't vote for the egg head.

Yes, I know who Germaine Greer is .... which is why I said "Who would want to be Germaine Greer".

She may have been relevent once upon a time ... but nowdays she just comes across as a bitter old hag

I didn't ask whether you knew who Germaine Greer was, but whether you read any of her works.

As for chess, I was into it from a young age and was the under 16 NSW chess champion in my day.

Lost interest in it a long time ago though. I did try Fischer random chess and Arimaa but neither are as satisfying as real chess even.

For a year I toyed with Go but it was beyond me in terms of getting to a high standard at that point in my life as I had way too many real life challenges to devote as much study as needed to it.

I think Chess ability is one of those stereotypes of intelligence that comes close to the mark but doesn't capture it entirely for what should be obvious reasons.

No, I haven't read any of her works. It's just not the kind of thing that interests me. Despite being a female, I don't feel the need to read about feminism.

Greer's an example of a burnt out feminist and a good model if what lies in store for those self styled feminists of today.

Greer's thesis was based around a hostility towards penile primacy.

She believed that women had been castrated. Female eunuchs as it were. Now this is very telling and self refuting since it suggests that women also should have "symbolic" phalluses which at some point were lost thus depriving them of sexual freedom and their place in the sun that men presumably had.

Fine. Let women be promisscuous and have their brains fucked out. Why intellectualise it? Just tell women to go out and be loose if that's what floats your boat.

I'm certain most men would not complain.

Where Greer met the pointy end of her beliefs was in the bald truth of menopause and the pains of childlessness.

In effect the biggest denial of femininity possible. The greatest example of true female eunuch status.

Hmmmm........judging from what Michael has said I pretty sure he comes from money. His father worked in Abu Dhabi - something to do with oil, he went to boarding school and hearing him talk a pretty top notch one. He told Angie that having money is not everything. So saying he is some kind of bogan - nope not buying it. Really think Michael walks to his own beat.
Michaels hair, tatts are him just like Estelle is a skater, rapper, pony girl. Just like Zoe wears cowboy boots. Just like Josh is a surfer dude. Just like Sam pumps iron. Just like Layla is ditzy. Just like Stacey wears usual clothing. Angie likes fake eyelashes, nails, tan and hair. Getting the idea. Everyone has something that they like that defines them for them. You might not like it but it's really not up to you.

I do so love the ramblings of fictional internet alter-egos. The online amateur armchair psychology is an added roflcopter bonus.

I guess I'm a bit old-fashioned, but I've always kind of viewed a lot of feminist writers as being "anti-male", and I just don't think that's necessary. Yes, I will stand up for other women if there is a real injustice, or violence, or whatever, but sometimes feminists can be a bit too militant and go psych about petty stuff.

Yeah, who knew that you could come onto a forum about a reality TV show and get an indepth psycho analysis?
