FNL comes to an end

The Grand Finale

The 54th, and final edition of Friday Night Live hit us last night. And it opened with a bang, as hosts Mike, Bree and Fitzy performed their first ever musical number - a stirring rendition of John Farnham’s ‘Playing to win’.

It’s a shame Mikey G forgot the words. Still, isn’t it the thought and effort that counts? And at least it proved they weren’t lip syncing (or did it?)

Throughout the night we saw the usual same crop of games, though in a refreshing change there was less time for the usual host/guest banter and more time with the Housemates actually playing the games. And the ‘Rat Trap’ seemed to have had a bit more time and effort put into its construction.

BB07 runner-up Zach made an appearance to guest judge a performance competition. He was most impressed with Travis’ ability to ride a fake horse.

The traditional Grand Finale height challenge saw Housemates being lifted 25 metres into the air, dangling from a rope, and dropping a cake into a large target below them. By the end of the night, Rory was declared the winner, and he was rewarded with the chance to celebrate with his younger brother for about a minute.

The night closed with thankyous from the hosts and waves from the no-doubt teary crew. And thus ended a show that has been criticised by the purists, loved by the kids, but nevertheless been a staple of the Big Brother series since 2005.
