Could BB have a future elsewhere?

The speculation begins

As noted in TEN’s media release, with no Big Brother in 2009, they will be looking to fill a significant chunk of programming time next year. Meanwhile, speculation has begun in the media and on our forums as to whether or not BB could find a home elsewhere.

You may recall that BB on Channel Seven became a possibility last year when news came out the network was bidding for the 2008 season.  It was never known whether that represented a genuine desire to obtain the show or was just a strategy to drive up the price for TEN, but nonetheless TEN eventually secured the rights.

Now, with the news that TEN is dropping the show, the idea has been floated again. It was even mentioned briefly today on Seven’s own The Morning Show – click here to watch.

In recent years, each season of Big Brother has been negotiated between Endemol Southern Star and TEN on a year-by-year basis. As BB08 wraps up this week on TEN, ESS is under no restrictions in terms of shopping future seasons to other networks.

When BehindBigBrother.com first broke the news of the cancellation yesterday, we mentioned murmurings that the concept may return to TEN in future years. No mention of this was made in TEN’s release.
