David finally talks…

Family dinner leads David to reveal his 'cult' upbringing.

Tonight’s family dinner has given David the chance to tell his housemates about his upbringing and how he hasn’t seen his parents since the age of 19 when he left the ‘cult’ lifestyle and ran away with just a backpack.

It seems that David has simply decided to tell them at the family dinner and his confession wasn’t prompted by a particular question. Rather he had gone to Big Brother and suggested that Family Dinner discussion leader Nathan read out a card which read “David has something he would like to share.” He makes mention that he wouldn’t have liked to have been evicted last Sunday without telling them a little about his background.

Apparently David tried to leave the ‘cult’ at 17 years of age with a female and another male, but the female companion got cold feet and pulled out. She called the church and from that time they we’re kept in some kind of ‘home detention’ for a period of 5 months.

He tells the housemates that his siblings are all in the church and have married and had children. David says he has never seen any of these children or shared in his siblings special days.

He continues, saying he got out at 19 years of age, and would now never be able to attend his parents funeral. He finally tells them that the ‘cult’ is called the Brethren. David says that in this ‘cult’ he was required to attend church every day and night, kept busy with chores and never allowed to play sports.

Nathan asks if this Big Brother experience is somewhat liked what it used to be like. David says it isn’t because he knows he can go to the diary room and exit the house should he so desire.

David says he is not looking for sympathy and he wishes Saxon was still in the house to hear it rather than think that David kept something in while he was in the house. He goes onto say that he loves his parents and will never say a bad word about them. He says he has spoken with them a few times since he left the ‘cult’, and they have apologised to him for bringing him up inside the church environment. David goes onto say he doesn’t blame them, he simply feels they too are victims of the system.
