That’s the message retired AFL star Campbell Brown has sent to socialite Bachelor contestants angling for admission to this year’s exclusive Spring Racing Carnival parties.
The Hawthorn premiership great launched into a heated rant against “social climbers” and “influencers” who pop up during the carnival and rob regular racing industry members of their rightful spots in the best parties in town.
Ahead of this weekend’s TAB Everest at Royal Randwick, Brown said he is “irate” about the conversations and behaviour he has witnessed this year from fairweather racing fans, who abuse their celebrity to find a way into the biggest events on and off the track during the Carnival.
In a live rant on SEN Breakfast on Friday, Brown called out Bachelor contestant flops as well as long-standing Carnival fashion ambassadors Jen Hawkins and Chris Smith.
“I’m irate about it,” he said.
“This time of year — and it’s a fantastic time of year — there is always Spring Carnival breakfasts, there’s exclusive parties and lunches and marquees and the rooftop at the QT, invite only sort of stuff.
“David Jones this, Myer that. You get a bunch of social climbers. They’re Moet & Chandon sipping, caviar-eating sycophants. That’s what they are. Influencers they call themselves. They couldn’t influence me to go to Vegas on my next holiday which is borderline impossible.
“They get invited to all these functions. I have a mate with over $3 million of horse flesh and he can’t get invited.
Bachelor contestants use their Public Relations offsiders to land them the most sought-after tickets in town.
“All the bachelor contestants. Their claim to fame is they got voted off a reality TV show at 17 or 18. They basically got dumped live on air and they swan around acting like they’ve actually achieved something in life,” he said.
“They hire their little PR crews and they get into their little marquees.”
