Alone Australia

I also didn't like Leanne saying that at least she beat Mike. He went out with a medical issue. That's nothing to brag about beating when you didn't even put in a good effort and weren't up to the challenge.
Nah, actually she said "at least I beat Rob" - who is her husband from Season 1, who stared at his family photograph for about a whole episode and then left on day 2. I just confirmed.

Yeah, I guess it's pretty hard to vet them to such a degree. In the first episode she was talking about getting to the end and Rob tapping her on the shoulder, and coming home with the prize money so that they could buy a house. Some people are just absolutely clueless and can't emulate the scope of a situation in their minds. I think they were trying hard to cast Aboriginal and would accept nearly anyone with heritage.

Partly that but seems they're having difficulty finding enough women to cast, so I think that was more of a factor. I suspect they actually approached her to make up numbers a bit. Three out of 10 isn't great.

I had a feeling that one was going to tap out early. So far I like the other woman they've featured who shifted camp sites, and Krystof. The emphasis on hunting is making me feel sick. I just want to watch them fish.

A real pity Mike had the medical emergency, as he was my favourite. I wish they'd give us an update on his condition.

So there's apparently a podcast companion with the show...

It has Gina the winner from last year and Darren Mara hosting.

I think her name is Tamika, the "Off-Gridder & Former Police Officer". I am liking following her as well, but I worry that they're showing more of the people who are relevant to the story line of leaving soon, hopefully that's not the case. I'm also enjoying Chase. So far I feel like Rick is going to go for the long haul.

They might mention it in the podcast

Edit: found him in this video @Melore

My mistake. Thanks for the correction. I guess Mike was just in my mind because it was sad to see home go out like that.

You're probably right.

The US has had some great women. Like Woniya and Callie. Australia's just a much smaller pool and we're probably a country that lives in more urban environments. We're also probably way more restrictive with what you can do from a survivalist perspective as a hobby.

Looks like we have finally met all the cast!

With episode 3 focusing on Jason, Suzan, Rick, Chace, Andreas and Jack.

No sign of Kryzystof and Tamika.

I can’t see the Aussie version running for too many seasons tbh. Limited styles of bushland / forest (seems cold weather in essential to getting them to finish up), and, you could say, many rules on what you can and can’t eat, I just don’t see if getting any more than say 5 seasons.

Yes it is definitely missing something. It is better than in Tasmania but I prefer the US version, I still like it a lot :)

What, ep 5 this week? Halfway mark (of the season, not of the time they're out there) is where it gets more interesting, because they're under increasing pressure to shore up their shelters, while getting hungrier by the hour. I hope we get a few more seasons.

TBH I thought food would be bountiful, but some of the restrictions are making it more difficult than it otherwise would be (can't eat the eels, only hunt deer at certain times, etc). If one or two of them score a deer or boar, and smoke them or whatever, they could go for many weeks on that.

I don't understand why the first thing they do is not to build a strong shelter with a place to keep the wood dry. With a good shelter and enough wood no matter the weather for me that would be the basic, while I have the energy before starving , than I would think of food. So many of them are cold, the wind, the rain, can't make a fire no dry wood etc. They don't seem to learn from previous seasons.

Personally I think building a basic shelter first, and collecting tinder/kindling at every opportunity whilst doing that. Forage for building and fire materials at the same time. Then get a fire started if they need to boil water. In the US show they get given a tarp specifically for their video gear, they could probably stack some firewood under that. It rains so much on the West Coast they really need to be mindful that every time they spot dry stuff they should be collecting it. Sooner or later it will rain.

There's no point in building a log cabin in the first three days if you wear your body down to the point you're too exhausted to go out foraging/fishing/hunting. Basic shelter > fire/water > food > better shelter > winning.

Oh no not a cabin straight away but a good shelter, one that keeps you shield well from the weather, wind and rain. Alone AU is new so they are not as resource full as US, I think.
I know I wouldn't last one night, I would be terrified even without, bears, wolves etc...plus I am Vegan, lol

Very few of them seem to know how to fish, or how to find worms. I find this frustrating. Last season, they were fishing in terrible circumstances with all the branches, roots, etc in the water (but at least they were able to eat their eels), and most of them seemed more committed to fishing, with multiple lines in, etc. The fact many of them declared themselves hunters (and then left after they didn't manage to hunt successfully) and seemed to have close to zero basic fishing experience has made it a bit dull to watch. You can guess who'll tap out next most episodes.
