THE COUCH - TV Chat Thread

WHAT??? How is this happening?

Oh well, now the question is should I DL the 2nd episode as well or wait till next week, so I can read the AV club. #Firstworldproblems

I'm busy next weekend so I weakened. It was just a stream so wait for the good quality I'd say. Great episode though.

I tried to get into OB by watching the first 3 eps of S01 but the production values and story arcs/script are about 10 tiers below shows from premium yank cable networks.

Every aspect of the series felt very 'cheap' in other words.

WHAT?!

Honestly sometimes I just can't with you.

Some people find it a little rough at first, I didn't though and Tatiana does amazing things with those characters. Also I don't know how you can think it's cheap production wise.

They must've blown the budget on the clones cgi 'cos the rest of it isn't much chop tbh. lol In terms quality I'm not just talking about production values but the script also didn't really come across as something that would be worth my while to continue to invest time in watching.

It came across to ME as a little clunky and not all that interesting. Then again it could be the lack of skill/talent of the actors they hired who knows. At the end of the day the show as a whole failed to sell itself successfully to me.

How many characters/clones is the leading actress up to now, 1000? lol Quite frankly I don't think they have the budget to get away with the multiple clone characters they're trying to portray; it is Canadian/Brit production after all which are not know for having large budgets.

Obviously there are enough people out there who are fans of the show to keep it going for a third season. And that's cool, it just isn't for me.

I kinda feel like this about most sci fi shows tbh, they're generally not written very well (IMO) and have too much cheese for me to digest. For example her black cop partner and her ex/stalker played by Mando were hellavu annoying every time they were on screen, which could have been due to them over acting in their roles or the bad lines they were given or probably both.

Point being all 3 first episodes struggled to keep my attention and had to watch it in installments of 10 to 20 minutes to get through each of them. Whereas as a 42 minute episode of a great high calibre show such as House of Cards, Better Call Saul, Game of Thrones etc.. I can binge watch through 3 or 4 eps and feel like it's just being an hour rather than the actual 3 or 4.

^ And that is the cheesiest rubbish I've ever seen on tv. Apologies for DW fans but it's true. I'm just not big on cheese, sorry. :p

I think we've watched completely different shows.

The only Sci-Fi show I really like is Doctor Who.

...amen to that... the best Sci'Fi show on TV!...

Same here.

...(Sticky wakes up and gets up off the floor)... Dr Who rocks!!!!!... :woot::woot::woot::woot::woot::woot::woot:... cheers.

Don't know if any of you here follow Britain's Got Talent but tonight's episode was brilliantly bonkers. HypnoDog was fantastic, not so much for his own time on stage but the affect he seemed to have on Cowell afterwards, singing along with rubbish singers complaining when the other judges buzzed them. Probably the most bizarre few minutes in the shows history.

BGT too also easily the best of the genre in Britain, regularly pulling in 10-11m viewers a week (about 3m more than anything else so far this year) and really benefitting from having a stable judging line up who are now in their 4th year on the panel.

Anyone planning on watching the SBS doco Struggle Street? Its been getting a lot of negative press, kind of reminds me of 2014 when channel 4 in the UK had their version of poverty porn, Benefits Street. That caused a lot of negative press as well. I'll probably check it out.

Just read an article that was saying that MT Druit garbage collects are going to be protesting outside of the SBS offices on Wednesday trying to get it taken off the air, so the participants can watch the whole thing before it goes to air.

I wanted to ask this question re "Struggle Street", but you have beaten me to it.

Yes I will tune in as I want to see how the show portrays these people living in Mt Druitt. Is it going to be like the show "Housos" where they just show bogans or are they going to show people who are doing it tough, but trying to make a decent living given their circumstance?

I lived in housing commission for a couple of years myself when I was in my teens, so I have a fair idea of what it was like to struggle.

Life is good for me now and I have no shame of my time back then. I have a lot of streets smarts I believe due to that experience. Saw the good, the bad and the very ugly.
